Install MalwareBytes stuck at Select Setup Language spinning circle

I cannot install Malware Bytes on my pc

Have downloaded mbam setup and when I double click installer it would not execute

I then opened the installer as administrator and when I double clicked a window appeared with the message

“Select Setup Language to use during the installation” with a never ending spinning blue circle in the window I cannot proced further
Malware Bytes customer support advised me to turn off widows defender I did and still could not install
They then instructed me to use the FARBAR recovery tool and send them the results and they could not detect any problems in the reports

I have always like the malware bytes software but I am at a dead end and cannot solve the install problem.
Any suggestions on what the problem might be or an alternate to malware bytes software?

    Thanks for your help

    :)

  2. Login from lock screen stuck on circular rotating dots

    The following happens intermittently:

    • I'm working and use the Windows+L key combination to lock my screen to leave for a period (can be short or long).
    • I return and use Ctrl+Alt+Del to log back in.
    • I get a blue screen with a small circle of spinning dots, which goes on indefinitely.
    • I have to hard boot my laptop by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.
This started happening only after I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Anniversary Edition. This appears to be a common problem with Windows 10:

I've tried most of the suggestions from these an other sources, but nothing has solved this issue -- which is very disruptive to productivity and seems to be specific to Windows 10. Please reply with only real solutions.

  3. Stuck at spinning circle screen after Bluescreen

    Hi Marcos,

Thank you for bringing this up. Since you're not able to boot into your PC. We suggest that you go to the command prompt from the Advanced Startup Options. Once you're there, kindly type these commands:

    • bootrec /rebuildBCD
    • bootrec /fixMBR
    • bootrec /scanos
    • bootrec /fixBoot

    After that, restart your PC.

Keep us updated with the result.

Install MalwareBytes stuck at Select Setup Language spinning circle

You show Win7 in your System Specs and under you name, has it been upgraded to Win10? Do you have more than 1 language installed or in use? There's a dearth of information in your System Specs.

  5. This is the reason, why I do not consider MBAM as a good removal tool. The first thing a malware does, that it prevents antimalware scanners from working, so using an installer is a terrible idea. Dr.Web CureIt! is the best, it is portable and it even uses a random name, so malware can not just block its exe.

Emsisoft Free Emergency Kit or Zemana AntiMalware - free for scanning and as good as MBAM, if not better.

Try to perform a system cleanup, some temporary files or corrupted files might block the MSI installer.
Download "WC.bat" and run it as admin, it will take about an hour, then select everything to clean.

  6. Hi, @provlima:

It looks as if you have an open, working topic with the forum Root Admin at the Malwarebytes forum:

Help! Cannot install malware bytes after I download mbam installer

EDIT: You also have a duplicate topic here at tenforums.com AND another at bleepingcomputer:
Cannot install Malwarebytes on my PC - Windows 10 Forums
Cannot install malware bytes on windows 10 pc - Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, and Privacy Software

It can be confusing, inefficient and even counter-productive to work on the same problem simultaneously in multiple venues. The helper at one location cannot know what the helper at another location has suggested, what steps have been tried, or what changes may have been made to the system. "Too many cooks..."

I respectfully suggest working in one place or the other, either here or there.

If you do wish to continue to work here, it would help us to better help you if you could please provide some basic diagnostic information about the system. To do that, please download HERE and save to your desktop the version of FRST for your architecture. Temporarily pause your AV to run the tool. Then, please attach BOTH logs (FRST.txt and Addition.txt) to your next reply here. Please be sure to re-enable your AV after running the tool. Also, please notify @AdvancedSetup in your other thread at MBAM forum, so that he can close your topic there in order to better assist other users.

    Thanks,
    MM

  7. provlima,

If you decide to just remain here, please download mbam-check.exe:
    https://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam_check

This diagnostic tool helps check for installation or configuration issues with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Also, if MBAM will not install, try right-clicking and renaming the mbam-setup.exe to mbam.com
Double-click the renamed file to run it and se if it rolls from there on.

  8. Install MalwareBytes stuck at Select Setup Language spinning circle

    Hi:

Agree with running mbam-check for troubleshooting. However, if - as the OP describes - MBAM cannot even install, there's not much utility in running it. Its log will be incomplete if mbam is not installed. It's really only helpful to diagnose issues for a system where MBAM is already installed. That's why I skipped recommending it for now. The 2 FRST logs will be the best way to start the diagnostic process. Depending on what they show, another attempt at installing MBAM & perhaps then running mbam-check might be needed.

As far as renaming the installer, that has not typically been a routine troubleshooting step for quite a while, with the current sorts of malware. On a heavily infected system where the malware might be blocking installation, other strategies, such as the built-in Chameleon technology, are the recommended way to go. Alternatively and rarely, it's occasionally necessary to run other malware removal tools first, sometimes outside Windows.

Having said all that, as the OP is already being actively assisted by the Root Admin at the MBAM forum, it's probably advisable for him to continue the process there. If in-depth malware removal ends up being needed, the helpers there will already have the needed preliminary data.

    Just my friendly suggestions,

    MM

Dumb question maybe, but have you tried opening the installers properties(by right clicking) and selecting "Unblock"(bottom right)?

It could be just that Windows SmartScreen filter is not allowing it to get any further

  10. @MM,

Agree! That is the best place to be, since MBAM is >their< program.
Also, he has already posted the FRST reports from the laptop in question.

As we know, the OP has posted at quite a few forums. Some individuals like to get opinions and/or something to try from different places, since, the more brainpower, the better. Everyone brings a different experience.

IMO, what is forum protocol for us, probably, is of no concern to this person. Any input from any forum will probably be welcomed and tried. Sometimes these issues are created by something that is rather unexpected and simplistic, but goes over everyone's head.

  11. Hi:

And OP was already working there on an unusual/atypical problem when he posted both here and elsewhere...

4 days had elapsed since those original logs were posted.
As the OP had been seeking help from multiple venues, it's possible that interim changes had been made to the system.
Hence my request for a fresh set of logs, had the OP opted to stay here for help.

    Always true, of course.
However it remains that case that working on one problem simultaneously can be -- at best -- confusing and -- at worst, e.g. in the case of an infected system -- potentially damaging.
That's why many/most disinfection and support fora respectfully suggest (or require) working in only one place AT A TIME.

In any event, the solution was for the OP to uninstall one of his two active AVs (ReasonCore Security), as reported here:
    https://forums.malwarebytes.org/topi...omment=1068686
Whether it was the conflict between the TWO realtime AVs (the reason why one should only have ONE active AV) or the selective problem with Reason Core itself is hard to say.

    All's well that ends well.*Smile

    Cheers,
    MM

Have to agree 100% with MM - working on the same problem at different forums will only cause problems. One helper thinks the system is in a certain state, yet other things have been done to the system based on other suggestions at another forum.

It's unfair to the helpers at either forum, and can cause more harm than good.

OP should stick it out at the MBAM forum and let them resolve it. He can then post the resolution here for others.

  14. Hi:

I don't wish to speak for the OP.
But, as far as I can tell, as I reported earlier, the issue was resolved:
