I can't factually answer, but I am under the impression it is counting threads too. I have searched for the answer to that very briefly but haven't found a creditable answer.

You didn't choose the backup option, shame on you *Biggrin Thanks for the warning

@Dude I shouldn't be admitting I clean my registry*Redface. But I can afford to lose Ubuntu in a VM, and I can boot into Macrium if I ever do something to Win10(plus I have a current registry backup using Tweaking(dot)com Registry Backup*Biggrin):

  6. One project I have going now will be to see if the 10 VM on VM Player will be able to see the newer developer builds upgrade over the 10240. Since you can't see any permanent activation the best option available to extend the life of an VM would be extending the trial period long enough at least to see the 10240 replaced by let's the latest 10585 build?!

Unfortunately since the 10240 isn't a developer build itself and on a VM you only get the 28 days or so since any rearm attempt will fail.

Well good news at least! Once the Fix me option appeared and I had to resign into the MS account followed by the Refresh button some encouraging news came! *Biggrin

For the ones that use Samsung Pro or EVO SSDs, I have install the newest Magician version(4.8) and activated RAPID Mode. Now my Windows 10 VM which is on my C: disk, is loads/boots just as fast as my 10 host*Biggrin. Everything is just as fast now, yeehaw!
I noticed the difference because my Ubuntu VM is on my 2nd internal HDD and can compare.
Without RAPID Windows 10 VM was just as sluggish loading and rebooting as the Ubuntu VM.
So if anyone has a Samsung SSD get the new Magician where you can activate RAPID, and speed those machines up.

When you store a VM on the OS drive itself it will always tend to load faster then when stored on some other drive. The prefetch process will automatically see things load faster when not adding in the extra task of accessing a separate drive. The load into the active ram is instantaneous. You can still see the 10 VM load faster if the VM is put into the suspend mode since when start 10 up the next time it would simply pop up out of nowhere in a flash provided you haven't shut the host system down in between turns and then need to wait for the start up process all over again. It won't matter so much where the VM is stored so much.

As for the word on CCleaner I never gave that program much confidence especially when working with anything newer then 7 which it was mostly written for as a precaution so it won't remove anything you later find you actually wanted to keep. I prefer to manually remove any clutter from empty temp folders as well as other useless files to verify just what is getting dumped.

As for VM ware's Workstation Player or non commecial VM Player you can run the latest versions on 10 but not when you have Hyper-V enabled as one cancels the other out. That problem likely is seen with 8 and 8.1 as well. VM ware is great for seeing 10 run on the previous versions however. But that works out well on 7 for seeing the latest Insider build running on the VM Workstation 12 Player while the Free player had to be removed from the 10 side once Hyper-V was put to use.

If you wonder why you can't install the VM tools look for the D dvd drive when that appears since the Tools set up files are found there. That's when you continue to see the "Install VM ware Tools" button on the light tan task bar that runs along the bottom of the window. Once the tools are installed the D drive then becomes available for access to the physical optical drive itself. The next screen here shows the Acronis software disk is now available to the 10 VM once you go to the Player menu options to select "Removable" and the "Connect" option followed by the "Settings" which brings up the screen you saw at first setting up the VM options to select the correct drive letter for a dvd drive.

Now getting back to something mentioned at the start of the guide here I did find when going back and seeing the VM Workstation 12 Player downloaded and installed on 7 there wasn't any expiration date typically seen for trial wares. The option for buying a license is for mainly for commercial application while 12 remains free for anything non commercial like home use.

The older free VM Player was the strictly non commecial free version some were asking about where there is no option to buy a license key in order to open up support for more things on the VM Player. The VM Player Pro was the paid for version in that line. I suspect you will no longer be seeing either of those two since the Workstation Pro would automatically replace the VM Player Pro as Workstation 12 Player replaces the previous VM Player 7.2 released back in June. That threw everyone off!

@Brink I just saw at Major Geeks that VMWare Player and Workstation has been updated.

  10. Finally updated you mean! Majorgeeks when looked over recently still maintains a lot of XP, Vista stuff while not seeing much of anything newer then 7 there. Softronic generally keeps thing updated as far as the freewares and sharewares they carry. They don't list them by version number there however but provide purchase and external mirror links for downloads.

  11. I just created my first ever VM, and even though I made mistakes by forgetting to finish the tutorial before I installed Windows, I corrected the mistakes, and everything seems to be working. I created it mainly to verify the safety of certain software, but legacy game fans will be happy to know that I've already tested DOSBox inside the VM, so I now have a physical Windows 10 machine emulating a Windows 10 machine emulating a legacy DOS machine.
