Windows 10: Install Windows 10 on a 4TB hard drive

Windows 10 went into total meltdown (again).


When copying files from my had drive to an external drive I noticed a lot of I/O errors, so I bought a new hard drive (4TB). Since Windows would not boot I downloaded the latest Windows 10 64-bit iso file and burned it to a DVD. The iso DVD is UEFI compliant (I was able to boot in UEFI mode) but the installer refused to install on my disk (no reason given - just a directive to check the non-existent error logs). I contacted Microsoft and then had me use the DISKPART utility on the DVD. The DISKPART utility is up to date (>2003) and it created a GUID Partition Table instead of a MBR Partition Table. I then tried the installer. It got further before refusing to install Windows. This time it gave a reason. It will only install Windows on a small drive with an MBR Partition Table - not on a drive with a GUID Partition Table. Apparently Microsoft has not updated the installer program since before 2003.

How to install Windows 7 on a 4TB hard drive? UEFI?

I want to install windows 7 on my 4TB hard drive. Here's what I run into. I run the Windows 7 install, click the 4TB disk and it tells me I can't install it on the GPT partition. Is this because my motherboard isn't UEFI compatible or can I do it without this?

- Motherboard A960D+ AM3+ biostar (I don't think it's UEFI compatible and I think that's what i need to make this work?)
- I formatted it and I can put data on the 4TB hard drive at the moment, but I can't install Windows 7 on it.

All the 4TB is recognizable, but I can't install Windows 7 on it.

Please HELP!!!

 

How to install Windows 7 on a 4TB hard drive? UEFI?

Solution 1: Buy a new motherboard that is UEFI compatible. I assume once I buy the UEFI compatible motherboard, Windows 7 install will automatically let the software install on the 4TB hard drive?

Solution 2: Buy a Solid State Drive and run Windows 7 on that without buying a new motherboard and decided to use the 4 TB drive as storage.

I had the same problem. No matter what I did I could not see beyond 1687 GB

This will be a secondary drive for me too.
I tried all of the above to no avail.

When I was ready to give up, thinking my 6-year old system (Alienware X58 with Asus P6T Deluxe MB with Marvell Raid Controller) would not handle the drive, I went through WD pages about the drive, and saw Windows 7 support as long as you have the latest Intel drive:

This surprised me since I still see the WD Green 4TB drive appearing during bios boot disk list with 1687 GB.
