Windows 10: Install Windows 10 Pro Creators Edition On ASUS P5WD2 Deluxe?

Hello:

I have an old home-built PC, with an ASUS P5WD2 Deluxe motherboard, BIOS 0806 BETA (from 01/14/2010, which is the latest BIOS version available), 4Gb RAM, Pentium 4, 3.2GHz, running Windows XP Pro x32.

She has worked perfectly, solidly and continuously for 14 years.

I have upgraded all my other home-built PCs (that have Gigabyte, ASRock and MSI motherboards) to Windows 10 Pro Creators Edition x64 UEFI (they all have X58 and X79 chipsets).

My question is whether it is even possible to install Windows 10 Pro Creators Edition x64 on my ASUS P5WD2 Deluxe motherboard, using a clean install on a new 256 Gb Hynix SSD?

SInce for the ASUS P5WD2 Deluxe the SATA drivers must be installed after the OS, I tried using an IDE to SATA adapter for the SSD, with one side connected to the SSD and one side connected to the IDE motherboard connector.

The BIOS recognized the SSD perfectly.

I tried to boot using a USB drive (after setting my BIOS to boot from that USB drive) on which I had installed the latest Windows 10 Pro Creators Edition x64 version (using the Media Creation tool).

The BIOS recognized the USB drive perfectly, and I used the boot priority menu to set the USB drive as the boot device.

I even used the F8 option during boot to pull up that drive priority screen, and I chose the USB drive.

But for some reason, every time the computer rebooted (see the 2 sentences immediately below) the BIOS had reset the boot device priority to the SSD (even though the boot device priority within the BIOS still showed the USB as the boot drive).

No matter what BIOS settings I tried on the ASUS P5WD2 Deluxe, the USB drive just would not initiate the Windows 10 installation process.

When the BIOS got to where the USB drive should have initiated the Windows 10 installation process, nothing happened for about 2-3 minutes (totally blank screen), and then there was the beep, and boot process would start all over again.

Perhaps UEFI is the problem?

All my other PCs have BIOSs that allow UEFI, but there is apparently no UEFI option in the 0806 BETA BIOS.

Since I made the Windows 10 Pro Creators Edition x64 installation USB drive on one of my other PCs that has UEFI, maybe the 0806 BETA BIOS cannot recognize those files on the USB drive because perhaps they include settings that would expect to recognize UEFI but cannot find it?

I tried to research this process on the internet, but there does not seem to be anything on this issue.

Might any of you hopefully have some insight as to whether it is even possible to do such an installation of Windows 10 Pro Creators Edition x64 on an ASUS P5WD2 Deluxe, and if it is possible, what are the exact steps to do it, and what exact BIOS settings should be used?

I have 10 Pro running on a Intel Core 2 Quad Core with 8gb RAM with zero problems.

I've been experimenting on a 2004 ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard - see Windows 10 on 2004 PC? and I can't boot from any media to do the clean install

I got Windows 10 FCU 32 bit version working OK but failed to install the 64 bit version. I could boot the installation media by various means but the installation always failed at the first reboot. I suspect a basic BIOS or driver incompatibility. In my case, ASUS haven't updated the BIOS since 2005! You might hit a similar problem if you can solve your booting issue.

Try booting from different media which gives you the option of a command prompt. In my experiments I booted from a Windows 8 retail install disk then selected Repair Your Computer and navigated to the Command Prompt. From there I inserted the Windows 10 FCU USB install disk and ran setup.exe in the /sources folder which gives you more options than the top level setup.exe.

Please advise if you get the 64 bit version working and how you did it.

 

I only run 64 bit Operating Systems. Your CPU can be checked with CPU-Z on Hiren's BootCD. You should have no problems running a 64 Bit OS on that machine.

If you can remember what model of CPU you have on those boards, the better it helps everyone. That ABN-SLI came out around 205, so it would not have any issues, especially that you can take it up to 8GB RAM. I am actually using a Samsung 850 Evo 3D 120gb SSD in the Lenovo that I have. It was the best out of the other two in my basement.

The 8n-SLI is a 64bt motherboard also. If one machine is puking on you, try a different hard drive and aso a different CD-Rom drive. I used my Blueray with USB on one machine that kept puking on me. Solved that problem real quick.

 

I got the initial install phase to work on the A8N-SLI. It's the first installation reboot which fails with the screen hanging at the blue Windows logo. I suspect a BIOS or driver incompatibility.

 

I suspect a problem not with those two. Some of the Intel tools can screw it op. The other may be needing a good cleaning, or just get anew motherboard and CPU, if cleaning the board does not work.

 

Intel 955X chipset doesn't support Core 2 Duos and Core 2 Quads, even PDCs.

Older 775 motherboards don't really have UEFI

 

Jump to conclusions much. Never stated that the OP system was doing that. Maybe try to remember that RIF equals Reading Is Fundamental.
