I’m trying to create a Windows installation media for a pc I’m building, but the installation media keeps installing on my family computer’s C drive, which is completely full. I don’t know where I can change the download destination. Can anybody help?

Installation media boots to command prompt

I've just booted from known working install media to see exactly what it does when booting. The sequence of events is...

    1. Windows logo on a black screen
    2. circling dots appear beneath the logo
    3. light blue 'Please wait' screen with circling dots
    4. a command prompt window (very briefly)
    5. the initial Setup page appears

Do you see steps 1-3? If so, it appears you have stopped at step 4, suggesting that something on the disc cannot be read.

Does the disc boot properly in another machine? If so, try cleaning the laptop's drive lens then try booting from the disc again.

If not, make new install media with Microsoft's Media Creation Tool, either as a bootable USB, on an ISO that you can burn to another disc. At Step 8 in Option One of this tutorial you can choose between making a USB or an ISO.

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

When creating a USB installer, the media creator keeps freezing.

Instead of directly installing Windows to the USB flash drive, please try to download the ISO file with the media installer then burn it to the USB flash drive using this tool: Download Windows USB/DVD Download Tool from Official Microsoft Download Center.
This is the same process except that it uses a different tool to burn the Windows.iso file to a USB flash drive. Don't forget to save the Windows.iso file to a folder you won't forget about so you can burn it to the flash drive.

When installing the tool, make sure to select the one with this exact name "Windows7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool-Installer-en-US.exe" The
en-US part is the only difference between the list, but if you don't select this one, the tool will be a different language.

Latest windows 10 Update keeps crashing my PC

    Hi,

Thank you for the reply and update.

I suggest you to recreate Windows 10 installation media on another USB drive from a different pc and perform startup repair on your computer to check if it helps.

If you need an installation media, I suggest you to download and create the installation media using the follow Microsoft link, which contains the Windows 10 ISO file.

    Windows 10 herunterladen

    Steps for Automatic Repair:

    • Insert the installation USB and boot Windows 10 from it.

    • In the ‘Windows setup’ page select the ‘language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’.

    • Click on ‘Repair your computer’ and select ‘Troubleshoot’.

    • Click on ‘Advanced options’ and select ‘Automatic Repair’ and select the operating system.

Keep us informed to help you further.
