Windows 10: Installed apps not showing up in start menu search.

Hi. Recently I have noticed that some of applications I pinned on the start menu disappeared and some are not showing up in the search. I have to go into their installed folders to run it which is hectic. Please help.

I appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down to the issue.

  What is the make and model of the computer?
  
• 
  Does it mean that the Start menu is not working or it does not show any apps?
  
• 
  Did you receive any error message?
  
• 
  Did you install any third party security application?
  

If apps are missing from the stat menu, I suggest you to search for the missing apps on the search bar and pin it to the Start menu just by right click and selecting
Pin to Start.

If that doesn’t work and as an initial troubleshooting step,
I suggest you to sign out from the current account, restart the computer and log in with Microsoft Account and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Also perform SFC scan and check the status of the issue.

System File Checker (SFC) is a utility in Microsoft Windows that allows users to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files. Perform System File Check (SFC),
and then check if this fixes the issue.

Press the Windows button + X
on your keyboard, a mini dialogue box will appear.

2. Choose Command Prompt (Admin). You must run the command prompt in Administrator level.

3. On the command prompt type sfc /scannow
and hit enter.

4. If everything went okay and no errors were found, restart your computer and see if the issue re-occurs.

Start menu search does not show installed apps

My start menu does not show any installed apps such as VLC, steam or you name it. It does show up things like calculator but for the most part it does not show any installed apps. I did not mess with the indexing option and dont know what im missing here. How do I have my start menu search to show installed apps?

 

Some installed apps don't show in search for Win10

Some programs in AppData\Roaming do not show up in the search menu. For example, Discord, is in Roaming, but does not show up when I search for it. Many apps that I have installed are also not in Roaming.

Same goes for \Start Menu. Lots of apps listed, some show up in search, some do not.

All applications were installed on my main account. The second account was not created until very recently. I'll look through the threads you listed now.
