    Installed Win 10 1803 over Win 7 Pro 64 bit SP1 - Network subsystem doesn't work.

It is the same issue I had with Win 7 a few days ago and I had to copy my recent OS backup over the internal OS to fix it.

From all the work I did I know it is not the NIC, NIC drivers, Network Reset didn't work, and the Network settings are all good.

When I disable the Local Area Connection in Network Connections, wait a bit, and Enable it, it appears it isn't asking the router for an IP.

Troubleshooter reports NIC driver or the NIC may be the problem, but that is not the case. I purchased a new one and got the same response from the troubleshooter. I booted to my OS backup SSD and the network was fine. So I copied the backup to the internal drive and completed the missing updates, etc. and it all worked good.

I then did a new backup to the backup SSD and booted to it to make sure it worked. I then installed Win 10 over the internal OS SSD. The OS SSDs only have the OS and software on them - data is on another physical drive.

When Win 10 was done with the over haul, everything looked good except there was no network - not no internet - no network with all the same behavior as before in Win 7.

I then rolled back to Win 7 and the network was back - go figure!

One more thing, I tried to post to TechNet, but apparently things have changed there and I could not.

I imagine if I wiped the SSD and installed Win 10 clean, it would work, but I have a ton of software and settings in my Win 7.

Up to 6 planets in retrograde is really messing things up all across the board.

    :)

  2. Upgraded - Win 7 Pro 64 bit OS to Win 10 and Received Win 10 32 bit OS- How to Fix

When I upgraded a desktop running Win 7 Pro 64 to Win 10, I selected installation of Win 10 64, however, system information now reflects that I have Win 10 32 bit and an x64 based processor. What steps may I take to re-install Win 10 - 64?

    win 10 pro 64 bit won't install

I had win 7 pro 64 bit installed on my computer and it was working fine. I upgraded to win 10 pro 64 bit and it was working fine. I downloaded the win 10 pro 64 bit iso file so I could do a clean install. While installing, a message showed up that said
that the 64 bit os was not compatible with my computer, so instead it installed the 32 bit os. My processor is an amd fx 8350 (x64 based processor) and my mother board is an asus m5a99fxpro revision 2. I need help so I can install the 64 bit win 10 pro os
and get rid of the 32 bit os. Any help in figuring this problem will be greatly appreciated.

    Upgrade Windows 10 32-bit to 64-bit.

You have to do a "clean install" of Win 10 64 bit. There is no "upgrade" process from 32 to 64 bit.

Did you have Win 7 Home or Pro. There is no "free upgrade" from Win 7 Home to Win 10 Pro. You have to do that upgrade in at least 2 steps:

Win 7 Home to Pro to Win 10 Pro

    OR

Win 7 Home to Win 10 Home to Win 10 Pro

The 32 bit to 64 bit upgrade is a separate additional step.

Run the WinVer command. What Version and Build do you have?

If you have Version 1803, many people have reported "accidental" upgrades from Home to Pro by MS. But that "upgrade" doesn't work!
