Windows 10: Installed Windows 10 update > erased my password, cannot login to my PC, cannot system...

I installed the latest update to Windows 10 today and it restarted, as usual.


At the log-in though I received the notification that my PIN was no longer valid due to changes in the security software, and I would have to log-in to change things. Wasn't aware I had a PIN separate from my password.


At the user account log-in bit I typed in my password and it said "invalid". I have no other way to log-in, though!


So I tried to do a system restore, uninstall updates, safe mode boot, and lastly a system reset w/ saved files. Error messages and failings all around.


SO now I don't know what to do. Been trying to chat with a live person for several hours. I may be stuck with a full system reset but if THAT doesn't even work since the reset w/ files option didn't let me proceed I don't know.


Everything was fine before I installed that latest update.

Installing Windows 10 on New PC?

I'm going to be building a new PC on Christmas and want to install Windows 10 on it. I have Windows 10 on my current PC, which I installed upgrading from 8.1 with the files on a USB. How do I go about installing a clean copy of Windows 10 on this new PC? I think I recall something about installing it once makes Microsoft recognize your hardware, but since this will be a PC I'm not sure what steps I need to take. Do I need to go 8.1 -> 10 or is there a method of going directly to 10?

If you're still locked out of your PC or can't login, our first goal would be to gain access to your PC. Since you've figured out that it is your Hotmail account that was used, feel free to check out this

and proceed with the forget password method. Skip this part if you can login and just needs to get rid of the account and password login.

Assuming that you now have access to your PC, here are the steps on how to remove the login screen:

• Get access to Control Panel by searching on the search box
• Click User Accounts
• Click Remove User Accounts

Follow the steps in removing unwanted user accounts and you should be good to go.
