  2. External SSD recognized as HDD in Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand your query related to External SSD showing as HDD when connected to the PC using USB 3.0 port. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below.

    1. Have you tried connecting the SSD to any other PC?
    2. Are you using any converter to connect the SSD through USB 3.0 port?
    3. Are you using a RAID configuration?

I have researched on your query and found that the SSD that you are using is an internal SSD drive, in this case I would suggest you to try updating the Intel Rapid Storage drivers from the

    intel website
    and see if that helps.

In addition, this issue can occur if the SSD is connected to a SATA controller that is identified as RAID (SCSI). I would suggest you to try connecting the SSD to a SATA port that uses AHCI controller such as Intel SATA controller/chipset.

Please get back to us with the detailed information to assist you further.

Win10 clean install on Samsung SSD 850 EVO

BLUF: SSD is not listed ubder "Where do you want to install Windows?"

    Steps Complete:

    1. I've create a Win10 bootable install usb.

    2. I connect the new Samsung SSD 850 EVO via SATA.

    3. I reboot PC and verify SSD is seen by the motherboard/BIOS

    4. Begin Win10 install via usb.

    5. Get to "Where do you want to install Windows?" and the SSD is not listed

    Problems:

    1. Samsung does not offer a driver for the 850 on their website

    2. Cannot locate driver elsewhere

    Unsuccessful Mitigations Steps Attempt:

    A. Format & partition SSD via Windows Disk Management, then retried steps 1-5 above....same result

    B. Clone existing HHD onto SSD via "Image for Windows" by TeraByte, then verified SSD contents via Windows Explorer....similar result

Can you please offer some advice on locating a driver for a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB drive? Or an alternative method?

    Thank you

installing multiple SATA 2.5" SSDs in an external case????

No SSD boot from external SATA 3 controller

    Hello,
Nice place here installing multiple SATA 2.5" SSDs in an external case???? :)
    My problem is as follows:

I have a flawless AHCI installation of Windows 10 Home on Samsung 850 EVO SSD plugged to SATA 2 native port/controller at my motherboard Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H (GeForce 9400 chipset, F4 BIOS). Everything works just fine.

    What happened next:

    1. Bought and installed a Chinese external SATA 3 PCIe x1 controller card based on ASM1061 chip
PCI Express 2 Ports SATA 3 0 Card PCIe to Dual SATA 6GB s III Adapter ASM1061 | eBay
    2. Plugged the aforementioned SSD to the card
    3. Loaded BIOS optimized defaults
    4. At startup the SATA 3 controller BIOS ROM initializes the SSD correctly
    5. PC freezes at the 'Verifying DMI pool data..........' screen and nothing happens next

I tried various options in BIOS with no success. Boot drive order is correct (1. SCSI01 Samsung 850 EVO SSD), first boot drive: hard disk. Also tried 3 different SATA cables just to be sure this link is OK. Also tried to plug the SSD to the second SATA 3 port on card.

When I move the SSD back to the motherboard native SATA 2 port/controller - Windows boots with no issues

Do you have any clue is this a:

    1. Hardware based problem (compatibility issue between SATA 3 card and the motherboard)?
    2. Problem with BIOS (I have the latest one F4)?
    3. Problem with Windows MBR?
    4. Other not listed problem?

Thank you very much in advance, I appreciate any help.
