Windows 10: Installing W10 from USB

HiHP Pavillion 500 desktop, 10 years old and painfully slow.Was running Windows 8.1. I purchased W10 to upgrade. Could not install on HP after downloading, starts and fails every time. So ended up downloading on HP laptop, along with Rufus assistant. Transferred both onto USB. Impossible to install W10 /boot from USB, even after changing Boot order in BIOS. Don’t know what to do. Computer always going to diagnostic mode or repair that don’t do anything. Currently resetting desktop to factory settings. Will try again when it’s done. Any help or advice on how to install W10 from USB would be app

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

To get rid of the Windows 10 upgrade, I would suggest you to follow these steps:

• Go to control panel, then click on Programs and Features.
• Tap on View installed updates, then find the update called KB3035583.
• Now uninstall this update.

W10 trouble with USB port

In order to understand the issue in a better manner, I would like to ask you a few questions.

• What is the make and model of your computer?
• What do you mean by “W10 will no longer accept sticks into USB port although has done so on my laptop but not PC”?
  
• Can you find any error message or error code on the desktop?
• Have you made any changes in settings prior to the issue after Windows 10 upgrade?

As a work around, I suggest you to download and install the latest USB drivers from your computer manufacturer website and check if it resolves the issue.
