  1. installing windows 10 backup and restore later

    Hi
    cant convince my wife to move to windows 10..... yet

    if I make an acronis true image back up of her system now, then upgrade vidta to windows 7, then upgrade to windows 10, let it activate, then make another acronis true image backup.....then restore the vista backup.

    will I then at some future date, possibly even after the ' free' windows 10 peruod expires, restore the windows 10 from the image I have ?

    sounds bit complicated, but if I leave it too long the free windows 10 upgrade will end..

    any comments please

    :)

  2. Window 10 iso file updated version

    No, Windows 10 must be installed and activated. The article shows you how to backup your Windows 8 install as a system image. Perform the upgrade to Windows 10, activate it, get the digital entitlement, rollback or restore your Windows 8 installation.

    Upgrade or restore your Windows 10 at a later date when you want.

    How to reinstall Windows 10 10240 that was upgraded from an activated technical preview build?

    I did another fresh install of windows 10 technical preview build 10130 and activated it. Then a few days later got my final build 10240 and my question is how can I create an iso/dvd/usb stick to clean install Windows 10 and still have it activated? Or
    if I use Backup and Restore (Windows 7) feature from Windows 10 will do the trick on backup and restoring an activated Windows 10 for a "fresh" install.

    PS: after upgrading to 10240 when I checked Windows Update I wasn't no more in the insider program but still windows is activated

    • Backup Vista
    • Upgrade Vista->Windows 7 -> Windows 10. Get activated.
    • Backup Windows 10.
    • Clean Install Windows 10. Make sure still activated
    • Backup a fresh copy of Windows 10
    • Restore Vista

    Only thing I might suggest to add to Topgun's post, which is correct, is to make a DVD and/or thumb drive of the ISO, before step 5.. I'm assuming we're talking 10586. Tech Bench will get you the WIM version of the ISO, which is what you want.

    • Backup Vista
    • Upgrade Vista->Windows 7 -> Windows 10. Get activated.
    • Backup Windows 10.
    • Clean Install Windows 10. Make sure still activated
    • Backup a fresh copy of Windows 10
    • Restore

    To perform step 4 i will need to have downloaded an iso and create a dvd or usb to boot from.....so will not this ISO be ok and the one you mention ?

    Once Windows 10 is activated, backing up would not require an iso as you can install it from a Macrium USB boot - unless you want to download the ISO - in which case backing up Windows 10 after activation is unnecesary as all you want is digital activation..

    Yes, the WIM version of the ISO is what you want. It will allow any future DISM repair work, if necessary. You can clean install from it, upgrade-in-place from it, repair from it.

    Superfly, I use Macrium (full) and I'm not familiar with an option to install an ISO from a Macrium PE boot. Can you explain, please?

    OK, it was the word "install" that threw me! I was looking all over Macrium for some kind of "install" option. Restore I have used many (too many) times! Thanks, Tomcat.... Merry Christmas
