Windows 10: Installing windows 10 on advent 7201 laptop and SSD

Imhave a rather old advent 7201 laptop, which has accepted windows 10 pro 32 bit, had to download a display adapter driver from ATI, but works fine. Then cloned to an SSD using true image, but when I fit the SSD into the laptop I get a bright gepreen screen with error messages.....

then tried fitting the SSD and installing windows 10 onto this from a DVD, got as far as the install process and got stuck at 0%

the BIOS is D3B11, but can't find much support for Advent drivers / bios , but found on a forum that drivers for the PL5C, on the mustek website are compatible....

is is there anything I need to do ? Previously added an SSD to several old PC's and laptops without problem...

I have an error code 80070017

I am having the sme problem with this error 80070017 i cant do system restore or even update microsoft security essentials and obviously i can't use the main windows update i get the same error 80070017 on all of them my comp is advent 7201 windows 7 1gb
it was running vista i took it to a repair shop and it came back with windows 7 also it doesn't always start up it goes to system recovery and then i can usually get it on it works fine when its on apart from everything thats connected to this 1 error

 

widows 10 rebooting constantly

PC is an ADVENT T9003. I upgraded the ram to 2 gb and updated all the drivers before I installed Windows 10.

Is Advent the manufacturers name to search for windows 10 drivers?

Best option is to image the old drive (backup the entire drive) to a separate drive. Then "restore" the image to the new SSD. That is what I had to do when I changed from conventional hard drive to SSD. I tried to clone the drive with several different clone programs including the one supplied with the Samsung SSD, Macrium Reflect and one other cloning program and they all failed at some point (all failed differently). The "image" method worked the first time with no problems.

If you do not have a program that will make a disc image, the free version of Macrium Reflect (a UK company) will do it.

thanks for the quick response, I did backup the HDD to an external HDD as an image, but when I try to recover it, the SSD is not showing as a target drive.

interestingly it shows in the bios as a 120GB SSD.....but when I run acronis true image it says it has failed to find ANY HDD's

can try macrium, if you think it would work.

Does the BIOS recognize the drive? If the BIOS does not recognize it, software/windows will not.

Acronis should work, although I used to use Acronis and it failed me twice trying to do a restore. It didn't get a third chance and I switched to Macrium.

Give Macrium a shot. Create the disc image and also create the WinPE rescue disc. Boot from the rescue disc to do the "restore" to the new SSD.

 

yes the Bios recognises the SSD, so am now creating a boot disk from the laptop in question as it's the only 32 bit machine I have.....making it on my 64bit PC is not suitable, or so the program tells me.

while I try this, is there any where I can find an updated BIOS...

I used macrium reflect, very easy to,use..

cloned from existing to new SSD, completed ok, but booting from the SSD gives me a slow flashing curser top left of a blank screen....

must St be missing something, as its definatelt recognised in the bios just won't boot from it...


As as I said earlier, I couldn't even clean install windows 10 to the SSD , as when it got to,the copying step it stuck at 0%

any any more ideas please

 

Boot into Setup (Bios) go to SATA or Hard Drive Mode, change it from IDE or Compatibility mode to AHCI. Save and Exit. You will need to reinstall Windows from Install media not a clone image

 

the bios seems very basic, couldn't see this option....is it in ALL bios' also why can't I clone an image.....need to transfer my existing hdd

When Windows installs on a computer, it takes a snapshot of the various hardware, motherboard etc. It loads drivers specific to that hardware during the install. If you clone that HDD to a different HDD in a different computer, when the computer boots, it will look for the previous hardware, it will not find it and it will BSOD or not boot.
Also, if the HDD was cloned from the same machine, but the HDD mode was set to IDE or Compatibility Mode, it will try to boot but fail.
To install to an SSD, you must have the HDD mode set to AHCI. if it is a newer laptop, this setting should be set as default.

 

Taking just the fact that I could not clean install windows 10 to the SSD does this point to,the AHCI not being set...

could updating the bios give this option, or is it a hidden bios option..

AHCI is an option in the Bios, when installing to a ssd always set the Bios to AHCI

It`s under boot options.

Why can`t you clean install 10 ? What is the problem ?

 

It goes through all the steps until it starts copying the very first file then never progresses
