Windows 10: Installing Windows 11 on a new M.2 SSD using my laptop and an NVMe enclosure

Now I need to install Windows 11 to the new drive before I can put it in my PC. So using my laptop I planned to do that, but my laptop is not reading the drive in File Explorer. I downloaded the Western Digital desktop tool and it recognizes that the drive is plugged in and says the device is connected and working properly, but when I go into BIOS the drive has an exclamation point next to it. I don't know what next step to take and my knowledg

Install Win 11 to external M.2 SSD via laptop

Hello everyone, I purchased a new NVMe M.2 1TB SSD and my old 512gb SSD is in the laptop. I have a SSD reader by which I can connect the new SSD externally to the laptop. The new SSD is clean and I need to install Win 11 on that so that I can replace my laptop SSD with the new one. Can someone guide me through the steps for the same?

I have 2 SSDs, one in the laptop and one connected externally via the reader. Can it be done with these two options or do we need an additional device for the installation.

 

Nvme enclosure "No Drivers are Installed for this device"

Hi, it is a Samsung 980 Pro M.2 nvme in a USB m.2 nvme enclosure.

I have updated all motherboard and USB drivers, no change. Please advise possible next steps...

USB thumb drives work fine.

Laptop won't boot from external m.2 SSD in enclosure

Hello all,

I have a Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH with Windows 11 installed. I recently purchased a WD_Black 1tb SSD to upgrade from the SK Hyinx 256gb that came installed. Western Digital offers Acronis True Image software to clone the drives for free. In the Acronis instructions it says to install the new SSD and put the old SSD into an enclosure to boot from in order to have a bootable clone. When I try to boot from my old SSD in the enclosure I bought, it fails every time. Most of the time it attempts to repair the disk for a couple of minutes and then says the repairs have failed. When I reinstall the old SSD into my computer it works perfectly.

Things I have tried:

• Setting the boot priority
  
• Turning off the secure boot
  
• Switching ports (usb-c and usb 3.0)
  

If this were a cloning issue I would go to Arconis but I haven't even gotten to that step yet. Any advice would be helpful.
