Intel i3 CPU Windows 7 Home Premium incompatible with Windows 10

I recently got the "Get Windows 10" from Microsoft but when I ran it the message immedtiately was that my system was incompatible with Windows 10. So that rules out the much trumpeted "free upgrade" from W 7 to W10. I welcome any advice which can help me decide just what part of my system is incompatible as the MS app. does not identify that for me. Perhaps I need to buy a more powerful cpu?

    :)

  2. WINDOWS 10 UPGRADE NOT COMPATABLE with 3.1GHz processor???

My Windows 7 Home PremiumSystem has an

    Intel Core i3-2100 CPU @ 3.1GHz

    4gb Ram,

    Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

    Asus EAH6450 Graphics Card

Windows 10 upgrade check, tells me my PC is NOT compatable with because of the PROCESSOR....! Yet Windows 10 SYS Req state a 1GHz processor is sufficient..??

Can someone please explain why I have this problem. Thanks in Advance.

  3. Win 10 requirements

I am running Win 7, but the Win 10 upgrade app says my PC has an incompatible cpu. It is an Intel i3-2100 at 3.1GHz and the Win 10 specs say 1GHz is ok.

Any intel i series is compatible. It's not your CPU. It is likely some hardware and/or driver you have installed. Possibly anti-virus or other apps.

    Could be because of BIOS.

You system is more than sufficiently up-to-date to run 10, as other have remarked.

It may be possible to circumvent some of the checks by upgrading using a download from the Media Creation Tool:

    Windows 10

You may still have to resolve the incompatibility at some time.

  7. You need to tell us what the message specifically said. Incompatible could be lots of different things.

Be careful of forcing Windows 10 onto the system. You could end up as others with a system that cannot be booted. First you need to figure out what is incompatible. It seems that the system should tell you precisely what the problem is. There should be a "more details" or "learn more" button somewhere when it says you cannot install Windows 10.

More information about your system details would be helpful.

The "Get Windows 10" applet simply says when pressed for its findings, that the cpu is incapable of supporting Windows 10. That in my view is pretty specific and cannot be interpreted in any other way. However, I have journeyed all the way with Microsoft from MSDOS and that amounts to about 25 or more years to date. That has taught me that the MS error messages thrown up are rarely literally true. I think of them as the Community Chest cards used in Monopoly! So, it may or may not be the cpu but perhaps it is time to retire my old PC and to embrace a new Windows 10 friendly machine.
My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H and I built the PC in 2010. BIOS flashed soon after building to F11. CPU Intel core i3 540 @ 3.07 GHz. 8 GB DRAM.

A semi-random thought: is you PC in some kind of power saving mode? I dimly recall that the CPU may be clocked back below 1 GHz when it is mostly idle. That could, in principle, cause it to show up as not adequate for the upgrade.

Seems ridiculous, but I didn't make it up.

It's called Intel Speed Step, and yes it can affect things, although I've only see it affect i7 4xxx CPU's for installation.

I don't think the i3 supports that, but if it does, disable it in bios to do the installation.

I remembered that I made up two identical PC's back in 2010 and the second one went to my daughter. The Get Windows 10 app does not issue the compatibility warning when run on that other PC. So it is safe to conclude that it is not the cpu as the two machines are identical. I am pretty sure to acquire a modern machine with Windows 10 to install. Just for the sake of interest I will eventually format the C: partition on the troublesome, old one making a clean Windows 7 installation. I will then try the Windows 10 compatibility test and we'll see what happens then.

    Thanks for tall the suggestions.

Instead of spending your hard earned money, I would begin by checking all bios settings to rule out any stupid possibility.

Is this a desktop or a laptop?

If it's a desktop, then you may probably want to check for a bios update too.

Check HERE. There are two revisions for this motherboard.

You can use CPU-Z to know more about your mainboard without having to open the case. Or you could consult the manual if available.

PS - I am sure your PC is more than capable of running W10.

I already have updated the BIOS to F11 way back in 2010 when it was released. My machine is a desktop and the Gigabyte mobo is revision 1.3

I can't imagine where I might begin in trying to reveal the cause of this incompatibility message.

Your BIOS is already the latest revision, but you may have to go in and enable some settings for the upgrade app to function properly (as already mentioned speed step can drop your frequency below the required 1 GHz, or having virtualization disabled, etc etc). Running CPU-Z would show if the required features are turned on or not. Also, while I haven't seen it hindering the upgrade itself, The Gigabyte App Center has caused some wonky behavior after upgrading, you can read it yourself here:
