F16G is a beta BIOS sent to me by Gigabyte Support in response to a support query. This BIOS is also available from other sources - see https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sh...php?t=18396884. I've learned something new this week about OROMs - thank you.

Gigabyte's support page for my GA-Z77X-UD5H shows IRST driver v12.8.0.1016 listed under Windows 8.1. There are 4 choices of IRST driver:

    • v13.1.0.1058 recommended by WinRaid as best for a Series 7 motherboard
    • v11.7.4.1001 recommended by WinRaid as best for matching Intel RAID ROM v11.6.0.1702
    • v12.8.0.1016 listed by Gigabyte Support for the GA-Z77X-UD5H
    • v11.6.0.1030 installed by Windows 10 which doesn't auto update to a later version

    Hmmm!

I am current using no#2 on my X58 ,with that same OROM as I use WinRaid's recommendations.

No#4 maybe the driver you had in Win8.1 and it was bought forward when you upgraded ?

***Note......Driver Versions are not specific to the OS but to the Chipset on your Motherboard , there are no specific Win10 Drivers for ANY chipset.

Good page for your Board at OCUK , looks like you are right about your OROM version ,
the newer Beta Mod 11 Bios now has 13.1.0.2030 OROM.

Thanks to all for your help. I've uninstalled the IRST application and I've decided to use IRST driver v11.7.4.1001 recommended by WinRaid as best for matching Intel RAID ROM v11.6.0.1702

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Application - Do I Need It?

    Hey all,

I know I am digging up an old thread here but did not think this worthy of a whole new thread.

I have 2 x SSD (Evo 950's) and 1 HDD (WD). These are not in RAID. Motherboard is MSI Titanium X Power and CPU is i7-6700K.

Should I be installing the Intel RST driver and software for a little extra performance? When I clean installed Win 10 Pro (UEFI) it installed it's own drivers (Device Manager shows no issues).

If I should install it, is it OK to install from MSI's download page for my motherboard, or from Intels site rather? MSI version shows 14.8.0.1042

    Thanks!

That is Intel's latest Official Version (x.x.x.1042) but MSI may have a slightly newer one ? the MSI one will have been tested with the MB so I would assume ok too.

Post a link to your MB if you need more help....

    Thank you very much indeed!

I wasn't aware of Fernando's great site and it's been a great discover.

In fact, he explains in the clearest way exactly what I was looking for, i.e. whether the (below) average user (like myself) would really need to "rollback" his/her Intel (R) 8 Series [...] Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller driver, updated by Windows/Device Manager (which is different from Windows Update!) to version 14.8.2.1044 (08/12/2015) , to version 14.5.0.1081 (28/06/2015), which is the one currently provided by the manufacturer (HP) of the PC on their site, for the sheer joy of having the IRST software installed... and the answer is definetely NO.

    Thank you again.

Have a look at Fernando's site recommended in this thread. The latest IRST driver is not necessarily the 'best' one for your PC.

For drivers for my MSI mainboard, I only use the ones from MSI, as they have been thoroughly tested for it.
Many newer drivers are just updates for support of newer hardware/chipsets which have nothing to do with my system.

    Hi,

A newer driver won't install if the chipset isn't supported anyhow.

    Hi,

Not all chipset numbers are included hence the dots prior to closing the bracket.

That's an Enterprise series driver with an added scsi filter. I havn't listed any of these but the one you mention is recommended by Winraid for the X99 chip apparently but you then need to run in RAID mode if I interpret the info correctly.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Application - Do I Need It?

I mentioned it cos I use an Asus X99 Board and Raid, but AFAIK it is the same Driver for AHCI?. The X99 Chipset can use 2 different EFI OROMs (Raid Bios's) , either the 14 Series or 4/5 Enterprise Series which is usually on Commerical grade Servers etc not Consumer Boards like mine , it depends on which EFI Module the Manufacturer has installed in the Bios , apparently (from reading WinRaid) some Boards allow you to change it , though I am not aware of a Consumer MB that allows that myself.

AFAIK all drivers from the 12 Series on include the extra SCSI Filter Driver (ie it is Enhanced) and I think

RST(e) = RST Enhanced ......... while RSTe = RST Enterprise ........the Enterprise Drivers are in the 4.x or 5.x Series though

    .............................................................................AHCI................... .............................................................. RAID............................................
    Intel X99 Chipsets Intel RST(e) v14.8.16.1063 or Intel RSTe v5.2.0.1194 Intel RST(e) v14.8.16.1063 or Intel RSTe v5.2.0.1194

    Hi,

I figured you'd be running an X99 chip. *Wink

Going by my two machines that support RAID mode it is the same driver indeed.
I'm using the plain vanilla RST drivers which are running fine and shows up in device manager like this:

I wasn't even aware you'd had to distinguish between "Enhanced" and "Enterprise series". The art of complicating things.... *sarc

The IRST driver (Raid driver) contains the AHCI driver. The only way to get the Intel AHCI driver that I know of.
