Interesting app that prevents pc rebooting in inactive hours

Came across this app that updates active hours, so you always stay in active hours, and does not reboot pc to install updates. Whilst not a recommended action, it would be handy when running very long tasks.

I have not tested it, so make an image backup first.

    Win10 RebootBlocker 1.1 Free download

Prevent automatic reboot after installing Windows-Upates. This tool will install a Windows-Service that updates the 'active hours' in the background, so that Windows will not reboot while you are working. The german computer magazin c't writes in editon 03/2017 as of 01-21-2017: The 'RebootBlocker' written by Ulrich Decker is suitable to get the unwanted reboots under control. The setup installs a windows-service, that will update the 'active hours' every hour, so windows will never be allowed to reboot. We don't know yet any other working solution.

    :)

  2. I need more than 12 hours for "active hours"

The issue is not preventing downloading, it is preventing shutdown and rebooting while

    I have essential programs running.

I don't have a "metered connection" and don't want to have to create a fake one that might or might not work and who knows what other problems it will create.

This 12 hour active (meaning 12 hours it is mine) and 12 hours inactive (meaning MS thinks it belongs to them) is not acceptable.

Microsoft Edge and the desktop icons

I got some new updates for my windows 10 today. I am not sure whether I got all the updates completely downloaded, since at the end, I got a blank screen standing idle for more than hour. So I manually rebooted the PC. The PC is working and I am able to
connect to internet. But the usual Windows start app that brings up Microsoft Edge is inactive. Any idea why this is so?

Interesting app that prevents pc rebooting in inactive hours

    Useful find- thanks.

    - not the same in principle, but setting updates to Notify means user approval is required- no download = no restart.
