    Interesting changes to MS Office.

I know this is not specifically related to Windows 10, but as many Windows 10 users now lease MS Office it will affect them.

In summary, MS intend to combine Word, Powerpoint and Sway as one package and Excel/Access as another.

This is a major change and could backfire?

Microsoft reorganises Office Group products; Word and PowerPoint to combine Tech2

Device not showing up in WMDC or SyncCenter

interesting development today... i plugged the device into the usb to charge it, and it auto-loaded WMDC and setup a new partnership.... i havent changed anything on the device.

I did come across a post in a forum where someone said they did a repair on their MS Office 2007 and then the device worked agian. I did reinstall MS Office 2007. thanks for the help. maybe if other people are having the same problems and have Office 2007,
they should consider either doing a repair install, or a reinstall.

    unable to open downloaded file

This error is generally generated by MS Office

If it is an MS Office file, try repairing your MS Office installation, go to Control Panel - Programs and Features - Select your Microsoft Office Installation, click 'Change' then select 'Repair' and click 'Continue'

When MS office has finished repairing itself, try opening the file again . . .

  5. I pay for 365 subscription for the full suite. If this means they want two separate subscriptions amounting to far greater cost I will drop it like a bad habit. Notice how they split Word and excel apart from eachother, I would say these two are the most commonly used office programs (at least in my experience). I noted no mention of outlook, I sincerely hope they don't drop my email client of choice. I don't care much for the native mail app.

change for the sake of change again at MS and ££££ signs in their eyes it seems.

I read it differently. How I read it is that instead of having three separate applications for Word, Powerpoint and Sway, you will just have one application that that will do all three.

Instead of having two separate applications for Excel and Access, you will just have one application that that will do both. Therefore, instead of having five separate applications, you will need just two.

Combining Word, Powerpoint and Sway into one makes sense. Initially however, the idea of combining Access and Excel seems a little odd, but the concept of a light database with a spreadsheet interface is not a new idea and when you think about it like that, it also makes sense that they intend to combine them.

    Interesting changes to MS Office.

My point was more about user familiarity - many people know their way round the existing apps - start combining them and there is a possibly a big learning curve.

There was enough of a learning curve when ribbons were introduced.

Also, currently you can run (say) powerpoint separately from word with different instances. Then if one crashes as happens now and then, it does not affect the other.

If both are in "SuperWord" (for want of a better term), will you be able to run separate instances (especially very useful on dual monitors)?

Also many companies deliberately restrict access to tools as part of their user policy.

Not convinced this is a great idea personally.

@cereberus -- I think the $$$'s are flashing in Ms's eyes again - but this really will backfire.

    Hi there
I think Cerebus is right -- I can't see it as a better deal than currently on offer.

What I think - if the public were given a choice - if you WERE going to combine it this way would be to combine EXCEL, WORD and OUTLOOK into a cheaper edition -- many people even in large offices / workplaces just use EXCEL and WORD, together with OUTLOOK. Package those 3 together makes IMO more sense in HOW people use the programs rather than "Logically grouping based on Functionality".
    -
I use Powerpoint etc - but I'm sure things like that aren't so much used by HOME users and not even by a lot of office people unless you make presentations and as for PUBLISHER -- well I'm sure some people have a use for it, and I'd avoid ACCESS at all costs --so many robust FREE decent Database systems out there I'm surprised ACCESS is still being offered.

I'd almost pay NOT to have ACCESS on my system --it's a terrible DB system --not multi-user and breaks easily. Why would I want to pay for it at all.

Some users include Powerpoint presentations / slides within EXCEL and WORD and that's fine although not huge numbers use it that way - but start mucking around with how people use Office and I think it's going to be a mega disaster. It's probably the MOST used computer suite of programs on the planet (at least in the Officeplace).

I do a LOAD of complex stuff in EXCEL with all sorts of embedded stuff --same with Word and can honestly say I wouldn't TOUCH ACCESS at all --

If Ms does change it I'm sure my current setup (Office 2016) will last me just fine until I retire !!!! so they won't be getting extra money from me. !!

Mega silly idea of Ms -- if you blatantly want to make MORE money do it sensibly. This is just CRAZY.

Anyway here's a decent CLONE of Ms Office that many people have never heard of - If you don't do a lot of really complex stuff the FREE version will function just fine (also on Linux !!) and much more compatible with Office than the well known LIBREOFFICE.

Compatible with the latest Ms Office formats too. The only snag as far as I can see is that it doesn't have an email client - and I have to say I still haven't found anything as convenient to use on any OS as Ms Outlook.

    Enjoy : !!
