Windows 10: Interim install of new Education Edition to beat key validity period?

Hello, so I snagged a copy of Windows 10 Education Edition from my university right before I graduated this month. However, I am looking to use the key on a machine that I have yet to build (Ryzen shortages). I wanted to know is it possible to do an interim installation with another machine, then install on the new HW with the same key since Windows will simply invalidate the HW configuration of the old HW as being valid? The key is only valid for 30 days so I need to assure that it is valid by the time my HW arrives. Thanks.

Yes, they will have to do a new install and select the appropriate version.

Keys are tied to specific editions of Windows so product key for Education N will not work on Home or standard Education edition.

Microsoft did not fully think the digital licensing through before starting to use it, leaving a major loophole in the system. From user's point of view it's OK, valid and legal, no worries. Any specific Windows edition on any device activated once will be assigned a digital license which will remain valid the lifetime of that device, subject to hardware setup remaining the same.

What this means, assuming the device license is MAK, not KMS, is that before her school removes her license, you just need to clean install the same edition (Education in this case) on that device, without entering any product key. The clean install will be automatically activated, this time with a digital license tied to her Microsoft account.

In my tests, MAK volume licensed Education shows license type as volume when checked, but after wiping the disk and clean installing without product key and checking again, it has been changed to retail.

Change from Windows 10 Education edition to Windows 10 Professional

Windows 10 Education is an academic edition of Windows 10 used in schools. Features like Cortana are removed because of the environment it is used in.

Windows 10 Pro Education builds on the commercial version of Windows 10 Pro and provides important management controls needed in schools. Windows 10 Pro Education is effectively a variant of Windows 10 Pro that provides education-specific default settings,
including the removal of Cortana1. These default settings disable tips, tricks and suggestions & Windows Store suggestions.

If you want to downgrade to the Windows 10 Pro edition, you will need to perform a clean install and you will need a unique product key to install it. The Windows 10 Pro Edu or Windows 10 Education key will not activate Windows 10 Pro.

If you don't have a license for Windows 10 Pro, you will either need to request it from the institution you got Windows 10 Education; or you will have to purchase a license for Pro, then perform a clean install.
