Windows 10: Intermittent audio cracking through sound card, headphones or hdmi audio

Intermittent audio cracking through sound card, headphones or hdmi audio, does not matter what the default playback device is, but it is not the default

playback device where the cracking comes through.

The cracking will escalate higher and higher for a few seconds to a few minutes then stops , repetes again at different interval.

If hdmi is default playback device then the cracking comes the headphones, if it is the sbx-fi it comes through the hdmi, if it is headphones it can be either hdmi or sbx-fi.

I have taken microphone boost down to 0 (off), reduced the bit rate of all devices down the lowest possible, but still have not fixed the issue.

Win10 64x build 18362.329, amd 6 core 1055t 2.8 ghz stock (no oc) 8gb ddr3 at 1333mhz, evga gtx 960 4gb vram ver. 436.15, realtek hd audio ver. 6.0.1.18581.

When the audio cracking occurs, the realtek front mic works without pressing the push to talk button on the mic, it will stay on for a few minutes as the

distortion hits its peak, then a few minutes later the mic will turn off on its own again.

Speech recognition is turned off, not configured.

Audio cracking sound in the laptop speakers.

Experiencing cracking sound on my laptop, seems as though the speaker is broken. Sound is fine with headphones .Windows 10.

It seems that the issue is due to incorrect audio settings. For help fixing audio or sound problems, try the audio troubleshooter.
It might be able to fix audio problems automatically.

Additionally, we suggest that check your audio settings. Make sure that your HDMI TV is set as your default sound device. Here are the steps:

• Click Start and in the Search box, type
  Sound.
• From the search results, click the Sound option.
• Under the Playback tab, click Speakers
• Click Set Default at the bottom.
• Click Apply and OK to save the settings.

Audio cracking on speakers and in headphones


ok so the issue goes like this: the audio coming from my laptop will suddenly start cracking and does not stop if I unplug my headphones. I don't remember when it started because it was rare at first but now it is so frequent that it gets extremely annoying and I can barely stand it anymore. When this happens the only solution I have been able to do to temporarily fix this is by turning windows sonic (spatial sound) on and then off again. I have tried reinstalling audio drivers and installing other drivers to no avail. is my laptop dying?
