Windows 10: Intermittent clicking; could it be the DVD drive?

My laptop makes an intermittent clicking when booting up and occasionally while running. Since it's fitted with an SSD no moving parts I'm assuming that the only other moving parts would be the cooling fan and/or the DVD drive. This clicking doesn't sound like it would be the fan as it's more like a switch being flicked rather than the fluttering of a fan. Or is there anything else it could be?If it is the DVD drive what's the best way of de-activating it?

  What is the make and model of the computer?

  What is the exact\complete error message?
  

Step 1: Try updating the DVD\CD-ROM drives from device manager.

• Press Windows key + X and click on
  Device Manager.
• Expand DVD\CD-ROM drives .
• 
  Right click on the driver and select
  Update Driver Software.
  
• 
  Restart the computer.
  

Step 2: I suggest you to check and install if there is any latest firmware update for DVD drive from the computer manufacturer.

Is this the HP 15r014tx in your system specs? If so, try the steps in this thread....

It may be that your DVD drive has a hardware failure (as was suggested in that thread).

Hi,

Follow the steps, update the drivers and check if it helps.

• Press Windows + X
• Click Device Manager
• Expand DVD/CD drives
• Right click and choose “Update drivers”

Check if the issue is resolved
