    Intermittent screen flicker


    I have a screen flicker problem which seems different from that which is commonly reported.

    My flicker is intermittent, occurring perhaps once in an hour, often less frequently. Typically the screen flickers briefly, then goes black. After a few moments it comes back as normal.

    My drivers are up to date according to an app I have for checking this. I am trying to determine whether there is a particular program that is running when the flashing occurs. Perhaps it is incipient monitor failure?

    I'd be grateful for any insights.

    Screen flickering in Windows 10 safe mode

    I haven't made any changes on my device. This screen flickering is only happening in Safe Mode.

    Screen flickering can be caused by hardware or application issue.

    To better assist you, please answer the following questions:

    • Is the issue only happening in Safe Mode?
    • Have you made any changes on your device prior to the issue?

    Hi Yasmeentq,

    Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    I understand your query. I suggest you to follow the steps to get out of safe mode.


    • Press Windows key + R

    • Type msconfig

    • In msconfig > Boot tab >
      Boot Options > uncheck Safe Boot > APPLY / OK.
