Windows 10: Internal microphone laptop disappeared, not able to select.

I have a HP EliteBook 650 15.6 inch G9 Notebook PC, with Windows 11 Pro 23H2.With one of the updates somewhere before summer, my internal microphone stopped working. If I look in the settings I cannot select any device, it is grey. I also can't find a microphone in the Device Manager, so I also can't install any driver I presume. I have tried multiple things, and even re-installed Windows 11 clean but that did not help, still no microphone.What to do?

That could be a case of the wrong microphone system being selected. If that is not the case, it could be failed hardware.

1. Start globe (bottom left)
2. Control Panel
3. Hardware and sound
4. Sound
5. Recording tab

Select among the choices there and try to find the one that works.

Also, within Zoom itself, you should see an arrow on the right side of the microphone icon. Click on that and you should find a selection that might work.

Worst case (hardware failure), the solution is easy and not expensive. Failures of these devices in internal laptops is common. You can buy a nice little webcam (perches on top of your screen) for about $30. Portable, plugs into any USB port. Should
install itself. Almost all of them come with built in microphone.

How can I activate my laptop internal microphone using Windows 7 Home Premium system to participate in Zoom meetings in order to hear and be heard in conversations? Video (picture) participation seems to work OK but I can't get the sound.. Laptop built
in speakers work OK for other uses so seems to be a problem with the internal microphone system. I don't want really to have to buy a headset with headphones and microphone to plug into a USB port ! Help please. Thanks. I am not very technically minded
so as simple guidance as possible would be appreciated with exact steps to try!

You could face this issue when the Microphone is not getting detected by the Operating System. Please follow the steps given below and check if it helps you.

Method 1: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled and is set as default.

Step 1:

Even though you have enabled the Microphone, I suggest you to set as default in the computer. Follow these steps to check this:

• Press Windows key + X and select
  Device Manager.
• Search for Sound, video and game controller drivers
  and expand it.
• Right click on the driver mentioned there and select
  Uninstall.
• Follow the onscreen steps.

Step 2:
Adjust the input level if you have difficulty recording. Click Properties, and then click on Levels.

Method 2: Uninstall and Reinstall the driver from manufacturer's website.

Updating drivers always do not work, let us try to uninstall and reinstall the driver. You can follow the steps given below to uninstall the Sound, video and game controller driver.

Step 1: Follow the step given below to uninstall the
Sound, video and game controller drivers.

• Press Windows key + X and select
  Device Manager.
• Search for Sound, video and game controller drivers
  and expand it.
• Right click on the driver mentioned there and select
  Uninstall.
• Follow the onscreen steps.

Step 2: Reinstall the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to use the sound recorder and check if you are able to record the sound.

• In the Windows Start screen, type “sound recorder”, then select Sound Recorder from the search results.
• Try recording your voice through your microphone, then play it back. To do so, simply tap or click Start Recording, speak to the microphone, and then save the file so you can play the recording.

This will helps us to find out if the issue is with any online messenger like Skype or Windows

Issue 2: This could be an issue with the corrupt power plan settings. This issue might also occur due to outdated display driver or some other devices are responsible to keep it
awake.
