Windows 10: Internal microphone no longer working after headphones were plugged in via USB-C port

As the title suggest, my internal microphone no longer works and I believe it is no longer recognized after I plugged in headphones into a hub that was plugged into USB-C port. Any suggestions?

USB Type-C Microphone Doesn't Work

Hi - I have a Yoga 920 Notebook with 1 x USB and 2 x USB-Type-C ports + a headphone Jack. The inbuilt microphone does not work so well with Dragon Naturally Speaking. Subsequently I purchased a small USB Type-C to double audio dongle and a small stereo lapel mic to plug into this. When I plug in the dongle to my notebook, I get the USB insert sound. When I plug in the lapel mic, my inbuilt mic remains active and nothing shows up under Sounds > Recording to indicate another mic is connected.

Just wondering if there is some trick to setting these things up?

 

USB-C port on laptop not working with headphones

I have an HP Pavilion 15 laptop. It has both a headphone jack and a USB-C port. Any sound coming out of the headphone jack has very bad sound quality for some unknown reason, so I decided to get a USB-C to 3.5mm jack converter. My headphones don't work
with this port at all, and the computer doesn't even recognize the headphones. How can I fix either the USB-C problem or the headphone jack problem? Any help appreciated.

Here are photos of the front and back of one of the HP pavilion desktops. As seen on the front, you can only plug in headphones, but not microphone so I can't use that. Looking at the back, I'm not sure what audio line in and line out means. Microphone can probably work with slot 7 but I'm not sure about the headphones.

I need the headphone and microphone ports to be very close to each other, so I can plug in a typical headset.
