Internal speakers and headphone socket show as disconnected

I recently had to do a reinstall of Windows 10 on my Lenovo G710 to get rid of a few issues, including a Start Menu Critical Error. Reinstall appeared to go ok and no faults were indicated. However, I noticed that my sound icon now showed a red X, and hovering on it shows "No speakers or headphones are plugged in". Plugging headphones in makes no difference and the internal speakers give no sound, although Bluetooth headphones work fine and cancel the red X. Troubleshooter detects no issue, but right clicking sound icon shows "Speaker setup (UNKNOWN)" and the only option it offers is OFF. Settings for sound show NO OUTPUT DEVICES FOUND, with the same for input.

Device Manager for Sound, video and game controllers show Intel(R) Display Audio, but when properties are checked it shows

Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.

I have checked the driver to be told it's up to date, and I have deleted and restarted - same result.

There is an entry under Other Devices which shows Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, and this shows an exclamation mark on the icon, properties for this show

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

A device attached to the system is not functioning.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

I have tried installing the driver for this, but it fails because the device is not functioning. I have deleted it and restarted with the same result.

Lenovo's Hardware Scan does not uncover any issues, and although I can still use the laptop with Bluetooth on, I just find it co-incidental that this has happened after a re-install and I find it difficult to accept that a OS reinstall can cause a hardware disconnection or corruption of this nature.

Any ideas appreciated - I have considered a further reinstall but I have little confidence in the process now.

    :)

  3. Headphones and Speakers not showing up in playback devices

    Hi Jonathan,

To help us identify the cause of the issue and then find the proper resolution for it, please tell us if you made any significant hardware or software changes on your laptop prior to this issue. Also, can you provide us the steps you have already taken to
try to resolve the issue? In the meantime, follow these steps on how you can enable your playback devices:

    • Right-click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select Sounds.
    • Under the Playback tab, right-click on the default speakers and select
Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices. Your headphones or speakers should now appear here.
    • Right-click the headphones or speakers and select Enable.

Keep us updated with the results.

Internal speakers and headphone socket show as disconnected

Internal speakers and headphones no longer working after Windows 10 update

I'm running Windows 10 Home, version 1709, build 16299.125. I tried the steps suggested on that page, but the sound card no longer appears in the device manager at all that I can see. And on the sound control panel, the internal speakers and headphone jack
no longer appear either. There is no default device there that I can modify; it only shows Bluetooth options.
