  1. Internal SSD with important data suddenly 'not initialized'

I was reading and writing to this disk no problem until suddenly the program I was using froze. I restarted the computer and the disk was not visible in finder and showed up in Disk Management as "Unknown" and "Not initialized" with no allocation. I tried crystalDiskInfo and the disk did not show up at all there. I used the event viewer to go back to the time this happened and found a warning from storahci saying 'Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.' After that there are a slew of warnings from disk saying 'An error was detected on

I used the event viewer to go back to the time this happened and found a warning from storahci saying 'Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.' After that there are a slew of warnings from disk saying 'An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk3\DR3 during a paging operation.' I don't care so much about the hard drive but I would really like to recover that data. I am using this computer remotely so I have not been able to try actually unplugging and replugging the hard drive, but that is the plan tomorrow. Is there anything else I should try?

  3. Read Unknown, Not Initialized SSD

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

It seems like you're dealing with a potentially failing SSD, which can be a complex issue. Here are a few steps you could try:

    1. Different Computer or Cable: It might be an issue with the cable or the port you're using. Try connecting the SSD to a different computer or using a different cable.

    2. Use Diskpart: Diskpart is a command-line utility that can sometimes fix disk problems that Disk Management can't. Here's how to use it:

    • Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.
    • Type diskpart and press Enter.
    • Type list disk and press Enter. You'll see a list of the disks connected to your computer.
    • Type select disk X (replace X with the number of your SSD) and press Enter.
    • Type clean and press Enter.
    • Type convert gpt or convert mbr (choose the one you didn't try in Disk Management) and press Enter.
    • Exit Diskpart and try initializing the SSD in Disk Management again.
    3. Data Recovery Software: If you can't initialize the SSD but you need to recover data from it, you might need to use data recovery software. These tools can sometimes read the disk even if Windows can't.

    4. Professional Help: If none of the above solutions work, the SSD might be physically damaged or experiencing a serious failure. In this case, you may need to seek professional help. Many data recovery services can help.

SSDs can fail for a variety of reasons and it's always important to keep regular backups of your important data.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best regards

  4. Internal SSD with important data suddenly 'not initialized'

Define New External SSD as Data Drive Instead of Current Internal Dedicated SSD.

I have two internal 1TB SSD drives in my Windows 11 (23H2) system. The C: drive is dedicated to Windows (system/programs, etc). The D: drive is my "Data" drive. It's dedicated to (and is the location/target of) all of my data, e.g. all libraries, Outlook data files, scanned documents, downloaded files, etc, all of which I had to redirect from the C: drive when I set up my PC originally.

My plan is to used the existing internal D: drive for periodic system clones instead of for my "Data". I want to use an external 1TB SSD to serve as my Data drive as described above. I'm looking for the easiest and most straightforward way to do this but with a couple of constraints described further below. It took me quite a while when I initially set up my system to redirect various sources from C: to the new target locations on D:. I know it's typically straightforward to do, but the process didn't always behave as expected. Therefore, I'd rather not have to perform individual re-targeting to new locations and would prefer something that could be done at the drive level. It's not important to me if my new external Data drive is called D: if that helps with a simplified solution.

    Best Regards
