Windows 10: Internet Connection Sharing Service automatically entering stopped state

Hi there,I have a few servers that are currently running Windows Server 2016 and despite performing the steps in https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/networking/ics-not-work-after-computer-or-service-restart, what I notice is that every quarter, the service automatically stops and it triggers alarms on the software that we're running. This has consistently happened more on servers that underutilise the shared internet connection versus others. As such, I was wondering whether the workaround above just increases the timeout to the maximum 2 quarters I guess? befo

• 
  Right click and go to properties.
  
• 
  Change Startup type to automatic.

  Under Service status click

Internet Connection Sharing no longer works Ver 1607

Hi,

This issue might occur due to some corruption in the drivers or the required service is not running.



I suggest you to check if Internet Connection Sharing services is started and
startup type set to automatic.

To check Internet Connection Sharing services is started please follow the steps below:

• Press Windows + R key.
• Type services.msc
• A new window will pop up.
• Find Internet Connection Sharing.
• Right click and go to properties.
• Change Startup type to automatic.
• Under Service status click start if it shows
  Stopped.

Also try to update the network drivers and see if it helps.

Hi,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps that YanisLukes
did to resolve the same issue.

To update your network adapter, you can follow these steps:

• 
  Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select
  it from the list of results.
  
• 
  Expand the category where your device is located, then right-click on the name of your device, and select Update Driver Software.
  
• 
  Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
  

If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

If updating the device driver doesn't work, we suggest that you reinstall the driver: 

• 
  Open Device Manager.
  
• 
  Right-click on the name of the device.
  
• 
  Select Uninstall. 
  
• 
  Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
