Windows 10: Internet connection stops daily when IP "lease" expires

Three days ago I couldn't connect to the Internet with my laptop. Until then it was working perfectly and my phone was still working fine.
I went into troubleshooting and the problem found was:
"wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration".
I Googled that on my phone and found a solution:
Command prompt
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
This works but when the "lease" expires every 24 hours the connection drops and I have to ipconfig /renew to get the connection back.
Is there a permanent solution?

That depends on how long the device was off for.

From what I understand, the authentication is stored server side, tracked based on the MAC addresses associated with the DHCP lease. When the lease expires (1 hour), if you are not online to renew it you loose the lease and next time you connect you get a
new lease, and need to re-authenticate. If you are online, you renew the IP and can keep browsing happily.

This is also why you need to authenticate when you move between buildings, as each building has its own subnet so you get a different IP.

 

network icon says "no internet access" but i am connected

like the subject says network icon says no Internet access but I am connected to the Internet on Windows 10 enterprise desktop computer. When you go into network and sharing Center network since private network, access type says no Internet access. Home
group says joined, in connection it says network adapter. Have gone in to network adapter settings it says no Internet access under IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity duration is active, speed is 1 Gbps, I have bites under sent and received, diagnostics says there
is nothing wrong and network connection details have the IP address, subnet mask, lease obtained and expired are good, I have the IP for default gateway , DHCP server, DNS server, all have their right numbers and are working.

 

It sounds like you may be getting your IP address from your service provider. For some reason, the IP lease is not renewing automatically when your existing lease expires. Please call them and explain your situation and see if they can help you. OTOH, it might be your boundary device: if you own it, there's probably some setting that needs to change to make leases renew automatically. Again, I'm guessing the ISP owns that device and they should know how to fix this problem. Hope it works out that way!

Thanks, Ed. She had PM'd me for advice. We tried all the normal IPCONFIG tricks, and nothing would stick. That's the same advice I gave her earlier...to contact her ISP. Also suggested she post in this thread cause there are some Network Gurus around that may have a clue.

 

This is an odd one: haven't run into it before. DHCP lease management is something that is normally completely routine. I've never seen/heard about a router/gateway device getting it wrong, which tells me that the code base is well-understood and stable. Thus, it pretty much has to be something on the ISP side, and something fairly far off the beaten track at that. Be interesting to see how this one turns out.

PS: just saw this thread further down this forum's list: Solved Dell Laptop suddenly not communicating with DHCP - Windows 10 Forums. Reasons behind these issues can apparently be very strange indeed!

 

Thanks for your advice. I contacted my ISP and she said it was a Windows 10 problem. Her solution, which seems to be working, was:
command prompt in administrator
netsh i i r z (enter)
netsh winsock reset (enter)

She told me if that didn't work to contact a Microsoft technician as it was their problem not the ISP problem.*Confused
So watch this space. I'll let you know if I have any further problems.

Does your ISP make you log into what is called a "Captive" portal when you start a session? What web browsers have you tried when checking to make sure that it is not a problem with one specific browser.
