I am trying to use remote into my computer using remote desktop. I leave my computer on before establishing a remote connection. However as I establish a connection and login from my ipad using the rd client, my computer disconnects from the internet and I get an error 0x204 on my ipad. How to prevent my internet from disconnecting?

Have you tried Remote Desktop Connection, to connect from your Windows 10 laptop to your Windows 7 desktop? Try it first, post back and tell how it went.

Some additional help because you mentioned you are a remote newbie *Wink. The windows 7 related tutorials from our sister site the Seven Forums:

1. On Windows 7 desktop, set network location to either Home or Work (I recommend Work):

2. On Windows 7 desktop, allow incoming remote connections:

3. On Windows 7 desktop, find out its IP address:

4. On Windows 10 laptop, start the Remote Desktop application and connect to the Windows 7 desktop using the IP address from step 3 above (see Part Three in the tutorial):

   • Notice that although the tutorial is written for Windows 10, it also applies to Windows 7

Internet Connection Sharing conflicts with Remote Desktop

After the 06 cumulative update of Windows 10 Version 21H2, the Internet connection sharing cannot be accessed by other computers remotely. Remote desktop access is possible after Internet Connection Sharing is turned off. If Internet Connection Sharing is turned on while the remote desktop is being remoted, the remote desktop will be disconnected immediately.

Internet connection sharing and shared network adapters configured in Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections\ cannot be connected by Remote Desktop, other network adapters are not affected.
