Internet not working after 15 March MS updates

The Windows updates of 15 March 2018 have stopped my internet working.

    These are: kb4011695, kb4018291, kb4011234, kb4088785, kb4088776, kb408876, kb4088776 (9)

The computer can see my wifi router, but reports a yellow triange warning and 'no internet access'. Three other devices can see the internet AOK through the same router.

I have had similar problems a couple of times in the last year after MS updates and have found a workaround by switching to a USB wifi dongle. No luck, this time.

I restored the system to its pre-update condition (using the MS restore point) and everthing was fine.

Then I turned off windows updates in Task scheduler, but (another day later) it has installed them again and I have the same problem with not being to see the internet. This time system restore did not complete (not enough disk space). After the failed system restore, there is 6GB free on C:; the latest updates (the list from the 15th March) still display in the update history, but do not appear in the list of uninstallable updates. The two restore points I had made have been wiped.

What next ? thanks. I can get online with a different machine, but not with the affected one.

WIFI Internet is low when LID is closed - March 5 UPDATE

Hi, my Internet (wifi) is incredible low when the LID is closed, it happened since yesterday after the update from
march 5 2018, my laptop is: HP 15 BS015DX, but everything was working fine

PD: I have tried nothing since it was working fine, and after the update is not, so I guess it was the update

    any suggestion?

Hi, 6Gb is too small amount of free disk space on any measure. It's possible you only have a 128Gb SSD glancing at the internet. Please advise disks in your PC.

Whatever you do you'll have to free up space.

Where did you look for the list of installed updates? In Settings?
Try (just a last hope) the Control Panel, Programs and Features, View Installed Updates.

As your System Restore failed, one way to clean this up would be an in-place upgrade repair install.

Does an ethernet connection work- assuming it has one?

    Internet: basics:
Have you tried rt clicking the tray icon, Troubleshoot?
    Possibly see:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...nection-issues
(Note: there may be instances where you need support via another internet connected PC).

Check with Lenovo's site for reports related to your device.

MS has made it much harder to do this. See:

I found two recent (17th) removeable updates there. Removed one to no effect. Restarted and removed the other. The restart for that one has been hanging for an hour so far..... will give it a couple more hours

128GB partition on a 256GB SSD. No ethernet port.

Yer, something got broke bigtime there (KB4088776 and KB4090913 were the remaining updates referred to in post #3 and it was KB4090913 that I had just removed before it went all FUBAR).

I've had to do a full system restore (using an external restore point). I am now back to my AOK state of 14 March 2018, (before the problem MS update). (I've lost a couple of things off C: which I was hoping to avoid, but its not the end of the world.).

For now, I have turned off MSupdates using this
Download NoVirusThanks Win Update Stop - MajorGeeks
is it kosher/effective ? or should I go with the WUMT Wrapper Script ?

(I have also cleaned some orphaned patches from C: and now have 15GB free)

ofc, this is all just a workaround and presumably I will still have the same problem from the OP if and when I install the 15 March updates ....

Good it's working and you're using disk imaging or similar.

Suggest you run through some routine checks:
    1. First check your disk:
Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and make sure all disks are reported as good.
If not, do not continue, and post a screenshot of its GUI.

    2. Now check your file system:

From an admin command or powershell prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials
    or
How to read Event Viewer log for Chkdsk in Windows 10 [Tip] | dotTech
    or
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

    3. If ok, then from an admin command or powershell prompt
    SFC /SCANNOW

If all that's ok, and now with more space, then you could
Download and install Windows Update Minitool (free)
    - make sure your disk image is current
    - manually create a system restore point
    - run WU Minitool and scan for updates
    - choose and apply an update
    - check consequences

    If ok- update disk image

Repeat until confident enough to enable W Update.

Hopefully, this will be fixed when the 1803 upgrade is released. Don't forget to make and keep a working image backup handy before you upgrade, so you can revert if you should need to. Ouch! Sorry for your trouble...

  12. I found the update that is messing with the Wifi here at school. It is the KB4088776. I have some students with the same issue on windows 10. Tested on a surface Pro which has the same issue. Uninstalled the update mentioned and Wifi is working as usual again.

Internet not working after 15 March MS updates

    Hmm.

Well, 2 days later, it has now re-installed everything that it had previously installed on the 15th (i.e. everything entirely) and is running fine. So who knows what the problem was... ?

    thanks

Just FYI, found this story on Softpedia News: Windows 7 Monthly Rollup Update KB4088875 Causes Network Adapter Issues. Careful reading of this story, dated 3/15, says that your WiFi issues with KB4088776 are commonplace. Glad you got it sorted on your own, and that you marked the thread "Solved" so that other users can find their way to your solution.
    Thanks!
