Windows 10: Internet randomly dropping connection, on my PC only.

All other devices on the network stay connected just fine so it is a problem with my PC in particular. So far I have tried updating the drivers for my network adaptor and disabling "Turn this off to lower power consumption" option within device manager. Neither of these solutions have helped.


One strange thing I have noticed whilst trying to diagnose the problem is that every time that the connection is re-established there is a log added into event viewer under "Windows Logs > Security" named "Audit Success" each time my connection dropped I checked the time to the second to see when it would re-connect and every time the log would appear at the exact second that the connection would come back up. There are two of these events that happen at the same time.


The 1st one:

An account was successfully logged on.

Subject:
Security ID: SYSTEM
Account Name: DESKTOP-8PRKSK2$
Account Domain: WORKGROUP
Logon ID: 0x3E7


The 2nd one:

Special privileges assigned to new logon.

Subject:
Security ID: SYSTEM
Account Name: SYSTEM
Account Domain: NT AUTHORITY
Logon ID: 0x3E7


The first one is categorised as a "Logon" while the second one is categorised as a "Special Logon"


Looking back in the event viewer logs it seems that this is a normal occurrence as it has the very same logs with all the same info dating back months ago but this problem only started happening today.

Internet Connection dropping randomly after upgrading to Windows 10

Internet connection dropped at 09:52 BST for 2 minutes. - not happy

obviously drivers did not solve the issue.

I will continue to play/search for an answer

if anybody has any ideas I would like to hear them.

just to reiterate-

I am using an Ethernet connection to a BT router, other computers continue to see internet, I can use the network, but drops internet connection randomly.

using wireless (or trouble shooting wireless connections) is not a solution.

 

Internet Connection Keeps Dropping


Hello, are you always connected to the same router - or are you skipping to others? Suggest disabling these settings:




Also check your channel is not congested, and signal strength is adequate. There are freeware tools which can show you this information.

You might have to change band (frequency) - and in one scenario where someone was renting a place it was suggested the owner was restricting Wifi bandwidth...!

I'm sure others more experienced in these issues will comment.

 

My internet keeps dropping out!


I suggest you connect your laptop to the router with a ethernet cable. If the wired connection is stable you know that there is nothing wrong with the internet connection itself and with your LAN. Next step would be to go to the website of your laptop manufacturer and look for the latest WLAN drivers. Install them and test whether it improves the reliability of your WLAN connection. Then post back the results.
