  1. Internet speeds slow on SOME Windows 10 machines

I have 2 machines at my desk, I have recently installed Windows 10 on both of them.

One of them is using a motherboard with an Intel I217-V network adapter, and the other is using an Intel I219-V.

On the machine with the 217, my internet speeds seems to be capped around 180 mbps confirmed via speedtest.net and via downloads from fast servers. The LAN speeds benchmark and work fine, so it seems to only happen when the traffic is from the internet. This machine also has a Realtek adapter and it shows the same symptom.

On the other machine that has the 219 I can test it almost any time of the day and I will see 400 ~ 525 mbps download speeds.

I have not been able to pin down the issue with the 217, and I have a family member that has gigabit internet service at their house and is seeing a similar symptom on a Windows 10 machine with a Killer E2500 network adapter.

In all the cases I have tested the cables plugged into a known working machine and they test fine at my relatives house I used my laptop on the network cable that was hooked to the offending machine and was able to get 790mbps download speeds, but the machine would see 170mbps maximum. I have even taken and booted the offending machines with a live USB drive running Linux and got proper speeds, so the issue does appear to be within Windows 10.

Has anyone else seen this ? I have already disabled all the power saving settings, and tried some other tweaks and only gained maybe 5 - 10 mbps of speed.

Really could use some help if anyone has any ideas of what is going on. I do not think I was seeing these problems when I was on Windows 7.

    :)

Slow Internet speed on only one computer.

    Hi Cody,

Slow internet speed on one of your computer could be due to the following:

    • Outdated network adapter driver
    • Different Wi-Fi chipset
    • Computer processing speed

Make sure that the network driver of your computer(s) are always updated.

We also suggest you to contact your internet service provider for them to check your internet connection speed and give you more information.

Feel free to post back if you have other concerns.

    Hi Blair,

There are several factors that affect your internet speed. A few would be connection speed, network traffic, hardware capability, and type of connection. To help us identify what might be causing the slow internet speed on your laptop, allow me to ask the
    following information:

    • How's your laptop connected to the network? Is it directly wired to the modem/router or wirelessly connected?
    • Were your other computers that were getting 100 Mbps download speed connected to the same network?
    • Were there other devices connected to the network while you tried to download?
    • Have you tried connecting your laptop to a different network? Did you get the same internet speed?

In the meantime, please run a speed test on your laptop. If the internet speed is slower that your internet package, then you may try to update the drivers of your network adapters to ensure that it's up-to-date. Please check out and follow the steps provided
on this link: Update drivers in Windows 10.

If you're trying to download while your laptop is wirelessly connected to your network, then kindly check its wireless adapter speed by checking its Wireless Network Connection Status. Follow these steps:

    1. Right-click the wireless icon on your system tray, click Open Network & Internet settings, then click
      Wi-Fi.
    2. On the right pane, click Change adapter options.
    3. Right-click your Wireless Network Connection and click
      Status
      .

Please take a screenshot of the status page and kindly include it on your reply.

Looking forward to hear from you.

    Regards.
