    Interruption of data transfer of large folder to hard drive


    I have a 1 year old Western Digital 12TB Elements Desktop Hard Drive that I use to back up all my critical data. Had a planned backup for a 400GB folder today and plugged the hard drive in. I copied and transferred the folder over and left to let it so it's thing.However I came back 10mins later to an error message. "Error 0x800701b1. An unexpected error is keeping you from copying this file...."For some reason my wireless mouse had failed at the same time, and my PC had hanged/lagged? I almost had to force shut down my PC. Eventually got my mouse and PC running again and tried to eject my HDD

    Hi,

    Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

    I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Plug USB hard drive into old computer.
    • Open File Explorer (Win+E) and open the USB drive.
    • Open another File Explorer window and open your documents folder.
    • Drag files to the USB drive.
    • Move drive to new computer.
    • Drag files to their new homes in the matching documents/pictures/videos/whatever folders you use to organize.
    Please let us know if you have any further issues. in uploading/ transferring data.

    Transferring a large amount of data

    The 200 GB of data/files/folders is currently on an internal Western Digital Hard Drive and the SSD is a 1TB Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive connected to the pc by way of a USB cable (USB 2 I believe)

    Is this SSD suitable for transferring the data to and, is it OK to be used on a regular daily basis for accessing said data.

    Hard Drive Data Recovery

    got a laptop pata hard drive that makes a slight constant clicking noise. hard drive is more than likely dead/dying right... i can see that partitions of the hard drive in disk management and i can see the partitions in my computer but i can't get to any of the data.

    any suggestions?
