Windows 10: Introducing Microsoft Whiteboard for Android and Microsoft Teams

Today we are pleased to announce the Public Preview of the Microsoft Whiteboard app for Android and the launch of Microsoft Whiteboard in Microsoft Teams channels and chat.

Whiteboard in Teams Channels and chat

For projects and longer-term discussions, you can now create a whiteboard associated with a Teams channel. Members of the channel can iterate and collaborate on the whiteboards over time. To enable, simply click the â+â button at the top of any Teams channel and chat to Add a tab, search "Whiteboard,â and follow the prompts to name your whiteboard and optionally post to notify the channel that Whiteboard is now enabled.

Whiteboard for Android

Leveraging the completely rebuilt Whiteboard for Web and Teams experience we announced last year, Whiteboard for Android moves us one major step closer to achieving our vision of a collaboration space for ideation that is accessible from any device and integrates seamlessly into the collaboration workflows teams already use.

Whether on Teams, Web, Windows 10, iOS, or now Android, Microsoft Whiteboard provides an infinite canvas where imagination has room to grow. You can draw, type, add a sticky note, stack things up, and move them around.

Microsoft Whiteboard for Android

To start using Whiteboard on your Android device running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or later, download the app from the Google Play Store or managed Play store if your tenant admin requires you to sign in with work or school account. Currently, Whiteboard for Android requires login with a Work or School account. To learn more, visit the Whiteboard product page, or read the FAQ.

Microsoft Whiteboard in Teams Meetings integration

Microsoft Whiteboard continues to evolve rapidly. This month we are introducing Whiteboard integration into Teams meetings and two intelligent inking features. Whether you choose to participate from the meeting room or remotely, Microsoft Whiteboard in Teams Meetings (commercial preview) empowers meeting attendees from the same tenant to participate in the conversation, regardless of the device used. For quick and easy collaboration, the board is automatically shared with all meeting attendees. To enable Whiteboard in a Teams meeting, please turn on the Whiteboard web preview here.

Ink grab, enables you to take a picture of your notes scribbled on a physical whiteboard and convert them into digital ink on the Whiteboard App. You don’t have to recreate your board from scratch and all of the information is captured. If you start an ad-hoc brainstorm session on the physical whiteboard, you can easily continue on the digital whiteboard and include remote collaborators in the conversation. Simply take a picture of the content and use ink grab to transform them into digital ink.

Bad handwriting? Don’t worry! Ink beautification increases the readability of quickly-jotted notes in the Whiteboard canvas, which analyzes handwriting and automatically replaces it with more legible strokes. This feature increases collaboration, learning and ideation by addressing common reasons users tell us they find it difficult to use pen or ink.

Together, these intelligent inking features reduce the friction associated with collaboration. With the magic wand, your collaborators will be able to easily collaborate with you on your inking creations. Ink grab and ink beautification are available in Win10 app, and ink beautification will roll out in the next iOS app update.
