Windows 10: Introducing Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ fast and efficient charging

Today Qualcomm Technologies introduced Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ Technology, our latest addition to the Quick Charge family, the biggest fast-charging ecosystem in the world with 1000+ accessories and devices worldwide. With Quick Charge 3+âs faster charging and affordability, thereâs now the opportunity to enrich lives around the world with the convenience of Quick Charge technology.

Quick Charge 3+ will be available first on Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 & Snapdragon 765G, followed by other new Snapdragon platforms across tiers in 2020. Xiaomiâs Mi 10 Lite Zoom, powered by the Snapdragon 765G, is the worldâs first smartphone with both Quick Charge 4+ and Quick Charge 3+ charging technology.

Quick Charge 3+ focuses on bringing advanced fast charging at a lower price point:

Fast Charging and better efficiency: 0%-50% in 15 minutes, 35% faster and 9 degrees Celsius cooler comparing to previous generations*

Quick Charge 3+ will support industry standard USB type A-to-type C cables and accessories that support scalable voltage with 20mV steps from Quick Charge 4, which are more affordable for OEMs and consumers

Quick Charge 3+ is backward compatible with previous-generation Quick Charge devices and newer devices can work with Quick Charge 3+ accessories thereby always providing the most flexible charging experiences

Other key features: Integrated cable power capability/identification, various safety mechanisms

Quick Charge 3+ supports new PMICs such as SMB1395/SMB1396, meaning:

Scalable architecture to allow OEMs to a move to higher charge power with the same software implementation and address different system requirement in terms of PCB design, charger IC location, etc.

Support of ultra-fast charging with lower-cost, variable voltage charging accessories such as Quick Charge 3+

Eliminating the need for external components such as OVP (Over Voltage Protection) chip, sense resistor and others

Support of two input, wireless and wired (SMB1396)

*With a single IC (SMB1395) and appropriate board/battery design. Quick Charge is designed to increase the battery charge of a device by up to 50% in 15 minutes. Qualcomm Announces Quick Charge for Wireless and Qi Interoperability

At Mobile World Congress, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), announced Qualcomm®Quick Charge™ technology for wireless power, bringing its years of fast charging innovation to the wireless charging industry and helping consumers to wirelessly charge their devices quickly, safely and efficiently.

Characterized by fast and consistent mobile charging, the over 1,000 commercial Quick Charge technology-compatible mobile devices, accessories, and components are equipped with unique safety and intelligence features that are designed to minimize the amount of wasted energy and heat build-up on-device, and maximize the battery’s lifespan, ultimately protecting and improving consumer’s devices.

While wireless charging has become a popular charging option, the speed and efficiency of such products remains inconsistent. Further, wireless charging products have been introduced that claim Quick Charge support, when they have not passed through the required Quick Charge compliance process. In response to these issues, Qualcomm Technologies has expanded its compliancy program to include wireless charging pads powered by Quick Charge technology. This expansion includes forward and backward compatibility and helps enable high- and efficient- power transfer, for transmitter manufacturers to achieve truly fast wireless charging. Wireless charging pads powered by Quick Charge will work with the same Quick Charge 2.0, 3.0, 4 and 4+ adaptersthat millions of users already have at home, work, and elsewhere. UL, a global safety science company and the first to administer the existing Quick Charge compliancy program, will expand testing to include Quick Charge for wireless power. Qualcomm Technologies is also welcomingthe first component vendor to the Quick Charge for wireless power program, Weltrend Semiconductor.

As part of the expanded compliancy program, additional testing will take place to ensure Quick Charge and Qi interoperability, aiming to provide consumers with a seamless wireless charging experience. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), creators of the Qi global wireless charging standard, includes over 650 member companies and over 3,500 compliant products. Qi-Certified devices include a majority of the world’s top selling smartphones, many powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ mobile platforms, with thousands of public charging stations deployed in restaurants, hotels, and airports, along with accessories available through traditional and online retail outlets.

Fast charging USB port Asus Z170 Pro Gaming?

@P4-630 I'm not sure about the Apple side of things, but at least on the Android side of things the ability of your phone to "fast charge" depends largely on the features of the particular SoC. Qualcomm's "Quick Charge" is the most prominent and most widely advertised. The list is here Quick Charge Device List | Qualcomm

There was an Anandtech article detailing what Quick Charge actually details, but basically it's v2.0 and v3.0 that mean anything significant and where you'll actually see a large improvement in charging-to-full times. The APQ8064AB S600 in the S4 (I hope you aren't saddled with the Exynos S4 as I know nothing about that one's quick charge capabilities lol) is off the v2.0 list (which starts at the S5, which I have and can confirm works under picky circumstances) and thus the S4 is presumably stuck with v1.0.

IMO literally all decent price-point boards have a fast charge feature in some form or another. The issue should lie with the ability of your mobile device to support it.

EDIT: Ah, from AT's S600 S4 review:

So evidently v1.0 does provide a big boost when your battery is nearly empty. I'm probably getting this wrong, this might not apply to charging off of mobos methinks,.
