Windows 10: Introducing the Battery Limit feature for Surface devices

We know that Surface devices provide great mobility experiences and fantastic battery life to power those experiences, even eliminating the need to carry around a charger for our latest devices with all-day battery life. We also know that not everyone uses our devices in this way. Some Surfaces are used in kiosk solutions, some are integrated into other devices, and some are just connected to docks all day long. In these scenarios, charging the battery constantly, even with the algorithmic approach we take to battery charging, can be detrimental to the device’s ability to hold a charge over the lifespan of the battery.

The new Battery Limit feature of Surface devices from Surface Pro 3 forward addresses these situations by providing a UEFI setting that instructs the battery controller to limit total charge to a maximum 50%. Enabling the setting preserves the battery’s ability to take and hold a charge while it’s connected to external power for an extended period of time and is recommended for Surface devices integrated into solutions like kiosks, consoles, and other scenarios where they are constantly connected to an external power supply.

This feature is being rolled out to devices via Firmware update. As of 10/9 Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 support this new feature after the associated firmware updates. For more information see Updates for Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 (10 September 2018).

Surface Hub is an all-in-one collaboration device built with integrated features that make not just presenting, but sharing, collaborating and brainstorming easy, secure, and productive. A Surface Hub Tour demonstrates these capabilities in a game-like format that can be explored at your own pace, demonstrating how to get the most from Surface Hub's most compelling features, like Whiteboard, Skype for Business, Office 365, Connect, and of course, several options to give us feedback to improve.

Configure one of the new amazing wallpapers included with the app and selectable from your Surface Hub settings to direct your users to the A Surface Hub Tour learning experience, presenting them with an invitation Come and Explore the Surface Hub by launching the app. Once in the app, you'll be prompted to choose an avatar, and then select from a list of lessons, or worlds. You can follow the recommended sequence, or explore the worlds at your own pace and in your own order. You can also sign-in to save your avatar, prizes, progress and your favorite features. In each world your avatar will participate and guide you in short exercises that demonstrate the Surface Hub's capabilities. At the completion of each world, your avatar will earn a surprise to celebrate!

The A Surface Hub Tour app is now available at the Windows Store for Surface Hub administrators to download and install. Microsoft: Software fix coming Surface Pro 3 models w/ battery issues

UPDATE: Microsoft has now published a changelog for the update, confirming that this was the only fix.

v38.10.90.0 corrects an error that may occur on a limited number of Surface Pro 3 devices where the full charge capacity of the battery is misreported to the operating system and device firmware. This update corrects the firmware component that functions as a "fuel gauge" so that the battery capacity is accurately reported. battery indicator issue on my surface pro4

Hi,

I understand that you are having issues while charging your device and your battery indicator is not showing the percentage correctly. I'm here to help.

Share this information to assist you better.

Are the charging connectors clean and free of damage?

Is your adapter working? Is the light on the connector lit when it is plugged in?

Does the charging status show a power plug next to the battery when it is charging?

We suggest you to follow the steps and check if it helps:

Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least
15 seconds, and then release both. The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least
15 seconds.

After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Press and release the power button on your Surface to turn it back on.
