Windows 10: "Invalid Drive D:" When I Try to Uninstall/Reinstall Node.js

For a while now I've been using an external hard drive for a lot of the programs on my computer, just because I don't have the space. When I was first using it, it called itself a D drive, and I installed a bunch of stuff and everything worked fine. I've had to move around/unplug/plug in my external drive college student, and after a while it suddenly switched itself to an F drive. Everything still works fine. But I was recently troubleshooting Node.js which was having other unrelated issues and tried to uninstall/reinstall it, but when I do, it says "Invalid Drive D:" I even tried deleting the installation software for Node.js and download a new copy, but it's still saying "Invalid Drive D:"

Invalid Drive upon install

I had previously downloaded a games launcher to an external HD (D:/) which subsequently died during the install. now whenever i try to install the launcher to my C: drive it comes up with error invalid drive: D:/ ive tried the windows uninstall tool but
it didn't change anything. any suggestions
