Windows 10: INVALID FORMAT hangs up Windows Update, CAN'T BOOT

This happened on monthly security and cumulative updates "08" and "09 on a new Dell XPS8950 12th-gen system. checked for updates and told to install. system starts updating percentage-complete 30%, restart, displays "INVALID FORMAT" message with blobby-bubbles-animation BUT NEVER COMPLETES UPDATE. tried power-off, then power on... see Dell logo but NO BOOT. have tried reloading WindowsImageBackup and no change. When auto-repair kicks in I use advanced features to "change how system starts" and choose SAFE MODE warning- 1024x768 screen resolution. Can see all disks and files. Tried Trou

Windows Update suddenly hangs?

Windows Update is suddenly hanging for some reason... I went and downloaded and installed the first bunch of updates, restarted when asked, and now when I go back to windows update I just get the window with a white box forever. Reboot and it still does it. This happens to be on my main machine, running windows 7.

I've also noticed when I reboot it says configuring windows update, step 3 of 3, 47%. Maybe it somehow skipped something and is screwed forever?

 

Invalid format/ booting windows

Recently my pc has been acting up. I get the motherboard boot image but when it tries to boot windows my display says "invalid format". I have tried to boot into safe mode but it cant, it displays "invalid format" again, same with my usb drive. Need help
asap!!
