Windows 10: Invalid Partition Table after windows updates interupted by GRUB

So, my laptop just got excited for updates and installed a bunch about 30minutes ago. It took initiative and rebooted by the time I got back to see it and there was just a black screen and the text "Invalid Partition Table." displayed at the top of screen.


My main operating system I use is windows 10 but I have ubuntu installed. GRUB is my boot manager and ubtuntu is the first thing that gets selected by default on boot unless I select windows 10. (haven't gotten around to altering the order to boot windows first yet.


Is there anything windows update could be up to that might cause that issue? I assume it was an accident based off some update config. Is this likely?


Good side of the story is that after a cold reboot, and selecting windows on startup windows finished configuring itself and booted like normal and Ubuntu is working fine again too. So not really sure what was going on there...


Laptop is a Dell XPS L702X with a 240Gb SSD partitioned with most the space for windows 10 and a small ubuntu installation attached on the side. My secondary drive is a 1TB split between each operating system for extra storage.


Any ideas on what might have happened?

How about trying rebuilding MBR?

If you have a Windows installation disc, you can fix invalid partition table via Command Prompt, here are solutions:

Step 1: Insert installation disc into your computer and boot PC from the disc. Click “Repair your computer”

Step 2: Select Command Prompt in the “System Recovery Options” window.

Step 3: Type “bootrec.exe” in Command Prompt and press “Enter”.

Step 4: Type “/FixMbr” on Windows. Restart computer and check if the issue is fixed.

I would like to inform you that this issue may happen due to system file corruption. As of now, I suggest you to try the following steps to employ the DISM command lines and check if that helps:

  Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.

  In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
  

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Cleanupimage
