Windows 10: Invisible file/stream in System32

In the System32 directory:


dir xxx.dll --> File Not Found

type xxx.dll --> cannot find the file specified

attrib xxx.dll --> file not found


Gnu which.exe xxx.dll --> C:/WINDOWS/System32/xxx.dll

Gnu "cat.exe" also finds it.


Rebooting WIndows did not change this behavior.


I've encountered this with two files - the other was my own text file that got written there accidentally,

In that case, I could edit it as a new file, save about 200 chars, re-edit it with Lemmy and it acted normally.

Dir listing said it was over a megabyte in length and "type" printed this entirely different 1MB+ version.


... as if different streams were being accessed.

What is this?

Can't list Google File Stream dir in bash shell

I just installed Google File Stream under Windows 10 to access my university Google Drive and it works just fine. However, as I am mostly a macOS and Linux user, I have installed the Linux subsystem, which also works mostly fine (mostly pretty great, in fact). However, when I cd to the mount point /mnt/g for the File Stream in a bash shell, the subdirs and files are invisible -- I get the error

ls: reading directory '.': Function not implemented.

I can in fact cd to the subdirs of /mnt/g -- e.g., cd "My Drive" puts me into that directory (as a pwd command verifies) but again the files therein are invisible and I get the above error when I try to list them.

Note that I can access the directories in question and list them with a dir (or ls) command using the Windows Powershell. So it's not like they are invisible to Windows (obvs). Also, I have no problem at all accessing the File Stream dir in a bash shell under macOS.

Any idea what's going on here, and whether there will be any sort of fix?

Any information/suggestions appreciated!

• Copy nvlddmkm.sys in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_5518e59e8d3b48f4\ to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ and replace the existing one.

Adobe flash will not play Xfinity stream on Win10pro

Steps to unblock Adobe Flash Player:

1. Login to Xfinity streaming on your browser.
   
2. If there is a lock sign on the left or right end of the URL/address bar, click on it.
   
3. Scroll down to find Adobe Flash Player and click on Unblock.
   
4. You should be able to stream once the Flash Player is Unblocked.
