Windows 10: IOCTL_SERIAL_GET_COMMSTATUS data format

In the function ClearCommError from winbase API, an IOCTL call with code IOCTL_SERIAL_GET_COMMSTATUS is sent to the driver and a pointer Request is passed as a parameter. What exactly is expected to be returned to the function by this pointer from the driver side? What is the format of the thing the pointer points to after the call? If it is a struct then what struct?

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

How to recover data from usb before formatting?

quick format loses no data, and at least makes it show as a partition. most recovery tools wont work if the drive is showing as RAW or without a partition.

Step 1:

I suggest you to change the file system to NTFS while formatting and then try copying the files and check.



Step 2:

• • Take the backup of the data, if you have any important data in it?
    
  • Let’s format the drive and check.
    
  • Go to this PC.
    
  • Right click on the external USB device.
    
  • Select Format.

Note: Formatting will delete all the data in the device, taking a backup of the data is recommended before performing a format.
