Windows 10: Ipconfig shows multiple default gateways

Greetings. I was playing around and decided to convert my old router into a switch. I have no experience with networking at all and now somehow when i type ipconfig, there are multiple default gateways.


Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : fe80::1%17
192.168.1.254


while previously i had only 192.168.1.254 which i believe is my main router. The other address continue to show even when i disconnect my makeshift switch made from the old router. In the old router i made sure to disable DHCP.

Limited Connectivity Win 10 (Deafult Gateway Not Avaliable)

This could be an issue with the network configuration for the Ethernet connection on the computer due to incorrect gateway setting as compared to the default gateway.



Is there any third party security software installed on the computer?

Check for the network IP and compare it to the default gateway IP. Follow the steps:

• 
  Press Windows and R key and type cmd. Hit Enter. Type “ipconfig/all” without quotes and hit
  Enter.
  
• 
  Check if the default gateway IP and the network IP (IPV4 or more appropriately IPV6). (Refer to the description provided above in context of the IP matchup).
  

To troubleshoot the issue further, I would suggest you to run the network troubleshooter and check if it finds and fixes any issues with the network settings. Follow the methods:



Method 1: Reset the IP configuration and check if it fixes the issue for us. Follow the steps:

• 
  PressWindows and R key together and type cmd. HitEnter.
  
• 
  Type the following commands and hit Enter:
  

netsh winsock reset

netsh winsock reset catalog

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh int ip stop

netsh int ip start

Can not connect to default gateway, error “Connection was reset”

I haven’t been able to connect to my default gateway for the pass couple days, whenever I go in it just says connection was reset and doesn’t work
I’ve tried doing ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew
nor did changing the dns to 8.8.8.8 help
so if any solutions could be suggested I would really appreciate it

 

Windows 10 - Default Gateway Not Available

When I had it I would use the TCP/IPv4 Properties Advanced settings to "suggest" the real DG. It meant that Status and ipconfig would usually show two DG but it made connecting and reconnecting much smoother. Occasionally when I have had such an override
in place I have been temporarily puzzled when I have connectivity problems at other sites but that is a much smaller problem to deal with than this irritant.
