Windows 10: IRQ Problem with Optiarc cd/dvd player?

I upgraded to windows 10 from Windows 7 and now my cd/dvd player doesn't work. It doesn't show up as drive in file manager. It does show up under "other devices" in Device Manager, with a question mark next to it. HP print device is also there with a question mark, but it works fine. When I check properties it says the device is working properly. I've tried enabling and disabling the device, also uninstalling and rebooting to see if the device would install correctly. Same problem.
In the "old days" a yellow triangle with a question mark next to a device usually meant IRQ conflict, but I can't make heads or tales out of the list in Device Manager.
This did not work, just slowed reboot down:
1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator.
2. Copy and Paste following and hit enter
reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
3. Type Exit and hit Enter
4. Reboot the system.

Sony Optiarc AD-7580 compatible or not that seems to be the question.

Yes 2 drivers were installed. So now the controller is listed as AMD Sata controller.

Before I installed the AMD driver, I removed the unknown Optiarc device and then rebooted the system. I have a perfectly working DVD device again.

The Optiarc is now listed as: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7580S SATA CdRom Device under DVD – Cd rom stations!

So thanks a million for your patience and excellent guidance towards the solution.

CD/DVD not working after windows 10 update

I have a Dell XPS laptop with a Optiarc DVDRWBD BC-5540H CD/DVD player that no longer works after upgrading to Windows 10

 

Hi, Sophieblue ... Welcome to the ten forums ... After the upgrade did you by chance installed the chipset for your motherboard and also if you have looked at the Optical drive company whether they might have a firmware available. Check the cables if there not loose, if possible change them. Lastly, these cd/dvd drives don't last long and it might be dead, its hard to say

 

I hesitate to suggest this, but if the drive isn't being read properly due to bad Registry entries, a clean install of Win 10 would probably fix that.

You'll probably want to hunt for more Registry fixes before resorting to that, though. Personally, I haven't had to deal with that on my 3 systems, only one of which is a clean installation.

 

Thnaks, sn00ker and Bobkn. The cd seems to be working fine, did'nt do anything to the chipsets. Hoping to find some solution or some way to get my stuff off here onto something else before trying a clean install. Have not had problems with computers in so long have forgotten how to fix them!
