Windows 10: Is cortana still a thing in 2024 and how do I activate it? If not, what assitants are on pc?

I've tried to activate cortana but get the message "Cortana in Windows as a standalone app is depreciated" and I'm not sure what it means. Does this mean Cortana is no longer here and I cant use it on my Windows computer?

Follow these steps on how:

• Click the search bar.
• Click the gear icon.
• Under Settings, click the slider to turn off "Cortana can give you suggestions, ideas, reminders, alerts and more."

Appreciate your efforts to work on this issue.

This issue can occur if some of the system files are not working as expected.

Suggest you to follow the steps from this article to
troubleshoot Cortana on the PC.

Note: Do not go with the ‘Reset PC’ option for now.

Method 1: Follow these steps to disable Cortana:

1. Sign-in to the PC with your Microsoft account.
   
2. In the search box at the bottom, type Disable Cortana.
   
3. Once the suggestions appear in the list, click Cortana & Search settings.
   
4. From the right section of the Settings pane, move the top button to ‘Off’ to disable Cortana from Windows 10.
   

Method 2: Follow these steps to check if that helps.

1. Launch Cortana from the search bar on the taskbar.
   
2. Then, from the left pane click the settings button.
   
3. Under "Cortana" (the first option) and slide the pill switch to the ‘Off’ position.
   

Method 3: Launch the Settings app and click on Privacy. Navigate to Speech, inking, & typing, and click Stop getting to know me. These steps will disable Cortana.

Cortana not activated on Windows 10 after upgrading from Windows 8.1.

The above issue might have occurred due to the following reasons:

• 
  Not logged in into Microsoft account.
  
• 
  Not activated Cortana on the PC.
  
• 
  Corrupted user profile.
  

Before we assist further, I would like to ask you few questions:

• 
  Are you logging in into Microsoft account?
  
• 
  Have you enabled Cortana app on the PC?
  
• 
  Are you getting any error code/error message on trying to activate Cortana?
  

I suggest you to login into the Microsoft account and check if the issue is resolved.
Logging in using a Microsoft account with administrator privileges will let you access all of the Windows delightful features like
Cortana (your new personal assistant), Spotlight feature, download apps and games from
Windows Store and many more on your PC.



If the issue persists, switch Cortana feature On by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type
  Cortana & Search settings and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Check if Cortana can give you suggestions, ideas, reminders, alerts and more option is switched to
  On status. If no, slide the bar to On status.
  
• 
  Check if the changes are effective.
