Windows 10: Is data recovery possible for a hard drive that has been converted into a bootable drive?

I have a two terabyte external hard drive that holds all my files. I installed a bootable drive software and without warning it wiped the drive. The drive was partitioned into a 32 gb "ESD-USB" and the rest was unallocated. I could not see the unallocated space so I partitioned it to a letter drive drive f. Is it possible to recover the data that was on it before I made it a bootable drive? The closest answer I have found thus far says that assigning a letter drive makes recovery impossible. Can anybody help?

Hard Drive Data Recovery

got a laptop pata hard drive that makes a slight constant clicking noise. hard drive is more than likely dead/dying right... i can see that partitions of the hard drive in disk management and i can see the partitions in my computer but i can't get to any of the data.

any suggestions?

I'm an australian who is seeking some advice regarding getting the data off my now non functioning 1TB WD Green Drive. The drive clicks and so it's been disconnected and from what I've read it's the heads or the motor definitely something mechanically wrong.

I was wondering who you guys would suggest? I've seen some prices for some data recovery agents in the US and they are a lot cheaper then Australia. I've been quoted up to $3400AUD where as the US data recovery places are half the price...

I'm all up for advice and recommendations from users dealing with data recovery companies. Also I'm not in any major hurry to get the drive repaired, i just want to get my data back.

The drive worked for 24 hours then i restarted my rig and the drive started clicking.. No idea what went wrong.

Well, I'm really sorry to hear about your accident with the WD HDD.
I'd still advise to try that WD drive on another PC just in case, and see if it will get detected there, or if it even spins up. You also mentioned you checked all connections, but did you try connecting the WD drive with a different SATA cable?

If none of these worked, then recovering your data might be a lot more difficult. *Frown
I'd suggest to turn to a professional data recovery, it also won't hurt to try what @RCoon suggested. However I'm not sure it's going to work, if the drive doesn't even spin up.
Data recovery companies are costly indeed, but if your files are that important, I'm not sure you have any other choice.
If the drive doesn't even spin up, we are most probably facing a physical damage from the power surge. This means you won't be able to fix it yourself. HDD physical repairs require a clean environment and technical knowledge of the HDD's structure and components.

Just a tip: This is exactly why we recommend keeping backups offsite as well, power surges/system failures can result in such unpleasant situations. :/
