Windows 10: Is "import photos and videos via Windows dialogue" still available in Windows 11 ?

Hello there, I got a question I got the latest Windows 11 edition with all the updates on my Laptop Dell XPS 9510. I am a photographer and recently for importing photos I found a problem in using the Sony Playmemories PC edition which I have been using for decades on various computers and Windows systems "specifically I can't open the Playmemories setting or PMBsettingstool.exe for some reason, it is running according to the task manager but does not appear. I ran the compatibility troubleshooting but failed to solve it, I ran it through safe mode but it failed. I contacted Sony support and th

Cannot Import photos to Windows 10

Hi Pawsitive Girl,

We appreciate you for being a part of Windows 10.

I suggest you to import the photos using Photo gallery app.

Please be informed that you will be able to see the Photo gallery in the apps list only if you have installed Windows essentials.

Note: If you have installed Windows Essentials, skip the step 1 and proceed to step 2.

Step 1:

Step 2:

After downloading the Windows essentials from the below link, you will be able to access the Photo gallery. Refer to the below article and check if you are able to import photos and videos from the Photo gallery.

Error Importing iPhone Photos & Videos from iPhone 11

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



We understand the difficulties as you are unable to import pictures from your iPhone to the PC. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

• What is the Windows 10 Version and Build installed? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)
• What is the app/program are you using to import the photos?
• Did you try different USB cable to connect the iPhone?
• Does it happens on all the USB port on the PC?
• Were you able to import photos before using Photos app on the PC?

Meanwhile, we would suggest you to perform these steps if you are using Photos app to import the pictures and videos.



Step 1: Reinstall the driver.

1. Connect your iPhone to the PC
   
2. Press Windows + X key and selectDevice Manager
   from the context menu.
   
3. Spot and expand the “iPhone Device
   ”.
   
4. Right click on the driver and select “Uninstall”
   
5. Check the box beside “Delete the driver software for this device”
   
6. Click Ok.
   
7. Click on the Action tab of
   Device manager, select “Scan for Hardware changes” option.
   
8. This will cause the device driver to be reinstalled. Once the driver is installed, restart the PC and check.
   

Step 2: Reset Photos App

1. Press Windows + I key to open Windows Settings.
2. Click on Apps and select Apps & feature from the left pane.
3. Scroll and look for the Photos app.
4. Select the app and click on Advanced option.
5. Click on Reset and once you see a tick mark, then relaunch and check.

Step 3:
Uninstall app using Power shell command

1. Press Windows + X key and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
2. Copy and paste this command, then press enter: Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | Remove-AppxPackage
3. Close the PowerShell command and restart the PC.
4. Reinstall the Photos app from
   Microsoft Store and check.

Step 4: New User account

If the issue persists, then we would suggest you to create a new administrator user account and check, refer this article to

create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10.

Unable to import photos

• How are you trying to import photos?
• Are you getting any error message?

You may follow the steps provided below and check if it helps to resolve the issue

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your hardware and devices.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter
