Windows 10: Is it common for Windows to have the 100% disk usage problem while updates are happening?

I have a HP pavilion x360 convertible (small, inexpensive, and not so powerful) for the past 4.5 years. I've faced the 100% disk usage issue several times, and tried several commonly recommended fixes that didn't last for long. Of late, I've noticed it happens only while i have updates downloading or installing. Is this something i can still hope to fix, or should i just resign myself to stepping away from the pc when updates are on?

100% disk usage

help 100% disk usage problem, win10 - common causes?

Across working with thousands of laptops, some just seem to have significantly slower disks. It could be a sign of disk wear or disk failure. When you open up Task Manager and click disk (I've attached an image to guide you)





what shows at the top when you're getting the 100% disk usage problem? My image shows 3% usage, which is quite normal/fine.

When you see it spikes to 100%, take a screenshot and upload here.

One thing it might be is your anti-virus software. This could be Windows Defender or another 3rd-party solution you've installed yourself.
