Is it legal for consumers to activate Windows with OEM keys purchase from third-party websites?

I've noticed that OEM Windows keys are being sold on various websites, including Amazon, for prices around $20 to $40. Many users seem to be purchasing these keys and using them to activate their PCs. However, I am unsure whether it is legal for a consumer to buy and use an OEM key, or if these keys are meant only for manufacturers and resellers. Can anyone clarify whether consumers are allowed to purchase OEM keys from third-party websites for personal use, and if there are any potential risks involved in doing so?

    :)

    activate windows 7 oem key

You cannot activate a retail version of Windows with an OEM key.
The retail version should have it's own activation key.
If you just borrowed the Win DVD from someone who is using the key, that won't work with your OEM (OA) key.

pwned by newtekie. lol My bad.
It does work in Vista and 7, just not in XP.

Have you looked on the ASUS website to see if you can re-download the driver/diag disk, or at least everything you need to make one?

Is it legal to buy OEM keys from site called keysfan

Hi, I am an Independent Advisor.

Let me help you with this issue.

I understand you need to know if you can buy OEM keys from the Keysfan website.

It is legal to buy an OEM license from any 3rd party website.

But the problem with buying a loose license is that there is no guarantee that it will stay activated.

You need to check on reviews about the Keysfan website.

See if they provide a warranty on their product and ask about their return and refund policy.

It is always recommended to buy directly from the Microsoft Store.

"Beware of Product Keys Sold Separately

With the exception of Product Key Cards (PKC’s) distributed with COA’s, Microsoft does not distribute products keys as standalone products. If you see a listing on an auction site, online classified ad, or other online page advertising product keys for sale, it’s a good indication that the keys are likely stolen or counterfeit. If you were to purchase and use a stolen or counterfeit product key to activate Windows installed on your PC, the key may not work for activation, may already be in use on another PC, or it might be blocked from use later by Microsoft when the key is reported stolen."
