Windows 10: Is it possible to change the number of a monitor?

Hi everyone I use a dual monitor setup one for gaming and one 12bit hdr panel for productivity. Usually my gaming monitor would be on the right but I've switched the monitors around as I get about 60 fps on all my games anyway so I'd prefer to play them with colour accuracy instead. So I switched the monitors however windows 10 has still numbered the monitors as incorrectly even after setting my other monitor as the main monitor. This is fine for the most part but I've found games bloody despise this and it's causing all manner of bugs or I can't even play on my colour accurate monitor as my gaming monitor is still monitor 1.

I'm aware that the monitor number is set through the GPU on the hardware side but I'd like to change it on the software side to fix these annoying issues.

Edit: I know how to make a monitor a primary monitor the issue is I want to change monitor identity. As a lot games use monitor identity 1 instead of the primary monitor and a lot of games don't allow me to change what display they use

Possible to re-assign monitor identities/numbers?


I finally got it to work no changing registry or anything. I went to nvidia control pannel. First I cloned it on NCP Then made 2 my primary in NCP then went back to win 10 advanced settings and chose extend these displays. I had to reset the resolution. but it worked. If these aren't the exact steps the then tinker with it you will get it.

It took me a couple tries to get it. but Nvidia Control Panel is the the key to fixing the issue. Final result extended display on hdmi connected tv and monitor is the primary.*Cool
