  1. Is it possible to clean install W10 on another drive in the same PC with W7?

    Hello.

I have a decade old, 64-bit W7 HPE SP1 PC with 2 SATA HDDs. I know MS lets users use their W7 keys for their W10 OS upgrades, but can I do a clean install on the other drive? Also, will I still be able to use my old W7 OS with its retail (not OEM) key too? Basically, I want to dual boot with both active OSes (boot from BIOS' boot menu and not W10's) in this decade old PC since I still use old softwares and slowly migrate over to W10.

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering. Is it possible to clean install W10 on another drive in the same PC with W7? :)

  2. W7 to W10 Update Failure

Contacted MS via chat on 2016-08-02 and agent was courteous, and stated that I should have been able to update from W7 to W10 given my issues.

In any case, tried to Remote Desktop with agent, but was unable to do so. Got download link from agent for USB W10 update and...

. Failed 2x to update from W7 to W10 (after apparent W10 update, PC rebooted and reverted back to W7...) using USB thumb drive.

. Decided to do clean install to W10 directly (loosing my W7 setups - no matter for this PC, and I had image backup...) and this time it did work (need to input your License Key Number in order to complete the update)....

Apparently my W7/PC combination was not able to be updated (why? don't know) but it did work doing a clean W10 from USB.

  3. W10 Bitlocker indicates W7 OS drive?

    Good day,

I wanted to activate Bitlocker on my W10 Pro PC. On the Bitlocker section of the Control Panel and on the list of drives, under Operating System drive, "Windows7_OS (C): Bitlocker Off" in indicated. Next to that is a link to "Turn on Bitlocker".

    1) How is it that it is indicating a W7 drive when I am using W10? The W10 Pro I am now using was upgraded last year from W7 Pro. Is Bitlocker still linked to the legacy OS?

    2) Is it safe to Turn on Bitlocker now with it indicating a W7 OS drive?

Incidentally, should I activate TPM before I turn on Bitlocker, or the sequence does not matter?

Could not find any articles on my questions. Hope someone can help.

    Thank you.

Is it possible to clean install W10 on another drive in the same PC with W7?

    W10 corrupts W7 hard drive

W8.1 was working fine as a removable hard drive. W7 installed on a RAID array as multi partitions. Works fine and both OS can be booted and W8.1 reads the RAID array when booting as W8.1

W10 upgrade completed on removable 8.1 drive, but then checked RAID drives for errors and changed them.

W7 on raid no longer boots. After severel hours W7 finally re-installed on RAID array. (data is on other partition so ok.) Tested working all data recovered.

    Here's the kicker.

As soon as I boot from W10 it says "reboot required to fix drives" then corrupts the Windows 7 install... Which doesn't need fixed!!

The drive containing W7 OS becomes unreadable although other data partitions on the RAID array are OK.

W7 recovery tries to fix the hard drive then fails.

W10 changed drive letters first attempt, so I thought this an easy fix, but in fact every fresh W7 install is corrupted as soon as I boot from W10.

This is a major problem. Why is W10 changing the drive parameters on a completely seperate fully operational operating system?
