Windows 10: Is it possible to reapir Windows 10 via DISM.exe running on WIndows PE

Hello guys,

i have a problem with my windows 10. After update from november some files are being corrupted - for example ntdll.dll, user32.dll, or hal.dll, but it is funny because Windows have runned normally without problems, next updates installed but....

I had problems with some softwares like autocad, relux, or siemens simaris. All problems were caused by ntdll.dll. I have tried to use regsvr but my console display information: "RegSvr32 The module failed to load. The specified module could not be found.". Perfect...

So next i had tried to use SFC, SFC found some problems but it couldn't repair it.

CHKDSK missed too.

Conclusion? My system is interrupted after update, but i cant repair dll which i need to work. So today i downloaded a hirens windows 10 PE edition, and i use it to copy ntdll from other pc to my pc.

I used below procedure:

under CMD i typed: takeown with /f switch, to get permission to whole system32 directory
and next step was icacls with /F switch to ger whole permission for WIndows PE administrator

I think it could destroy my system.

And then i used "copy" command in CMD to replace "good" ntdll with broken.

After that operation, my system cant boot. I see the bluescreen immediately after bios screen, and i cant do anything.

So i want to try two options:

1. change icalcs and takeown to default value, but i fought it only change in WIndows PE. Now when i am looking at it, i think they are correct, but im not sure.


2. Use DISM.exe under my Windows PE.


What i have? I have windows.iso file, and i prepared windows install.esd from it.

So is it any option to rescue my OS? :/

How to run DISM in Windows PE?

Last Thursday Windows 10 downloaded an update, after the update it closed down to restart. It failed to restart and will not boot up. Going online I managed to get to the recovery screen which had several options including system restore. System Restore
does nothing but tell you to boot up the computer and use system restore. Why, God knows as anyone would who could boot up would do so and restore the system. I could get into command prompt. One thing the Windows 10 forum had was to run scannow and chkdsk.
Both came back with no errors.

There was also a DISM etc online Restore Health. Command Prompt said no go, in Windows PE online is not possible. The forums came up with various way to run DISM in Windows PE. They all resulted in the same error message of unable to reach the image.
The image is the ISO downloaded from Microsoft and burned onto a dvd. Using notepad, I know the dvd’s disk number and can see the iso there.

Does anyone know the actual wording to run DISM using this ISO?

Windows 10 is excellent but it's easy to break.

As I said with Windows 10, the Microsoft Download Tool that most download Windows 10 from, in the Sources folder has an Install.ESD instead of Install.WIM. Well unfortunately, for a successful DISM repair using Install.WIM as the check against which your OS will be repaired isn't possible with the ESD file. But you can convert the ESD to WIM using DISM as well! It takes a little bit of time but is worth it to have around when you need it!
